Sure, but did this happen? He screwed up because he overvalued his roster in thinking that it would equate to mid first round picks...

everybody did, the media included.

He was only the GM for 3.5 years... started in late 2008 so 2009, 2010, 2011 and 1/2 of 2012. I guess we'll see what he accomplished. No point in saying he failed... pretty hard to improve the roster the JFJ built and destroyed by not trading his best players when they were old. Also the transition into the 2005 CBA was a disaster for our old team and the prospect pool they had at the time
Losing Roberts, Joe, Mats, Belfour, Leetch, Mogilny etc.... etc... for nothing is crazy.

However, Burke is a legend for not getting good goalies to play for a team.

- HipHopisDead

...but he did.
He promised a trucculent team, he promised a team who is hard to play against and he promised a contender.....he did not deliver.

Yes and no. hindsite is 20-20. No one in the media or anywhere though they'de be that low so it wasn't burke undervaluing as much as they guys just sucked, and i think playing under wilson was a problem. Burke's huge mistake was loyalty to his buddy more than anything. Having said that, sequin and kesel for me are a wash, Kessel will never be the type of player sequin is and sequin isn't as pure a sniper. They will probably be similar stats wise when all is sadi and done but with different styles. The kicker is hamilton but we don't know yet what he is. He should be good, and playing in Boston with guys like chara will help him consideralbly so if he works out then boston won the trade. But Burke never imagined a top 5 pick nor did anyone else. I blame him for the goaltending and wilson, not the kessel trade.

Personally I would rather have a player of Seguin's capabilities than Kessel when rebuilding a team...so, we will agree to disagree on a bunch of stuff...

Most realistic offer I have seen is Kulikov for Lou. Canucks make out like bandits and Panthers make the splash they wanted.

Absolutely, sequin is a good player, but boston isn't building around him either. Phaneuf and Chara are the centre peices of these two teams, not kessel and sequin.

Agreed...Seguin right now is the bette4r all around player and then add the potential of Hamilton and the leafs lost miserably on this trade

wow, what a bizarro world analysis of Burke, only explained by your need to praise everyone for fear of not staying on their good side. Burke was not patient, he was utterly impatient. The Kessel deal was terrible, and impatient, and he acquired a player that was not at all in his mold...at least as he set out. The idea that the present young Leafs are the Hawks in the making is laughable...who is the Kane, the Toews, the Keith, of that team....,man oh man, what a delusional analysis

I disagree with that...but lets say you are right, would you rather have kessel than the potential of the other side of the trade? If you could have a mulligan would you go back and do the trade again if you were in that situation?
- JR1417

I wouldn't for a 2nd, 31st and a 9th, but I would for a 11th, 41st and 14th.

Blame is analysis of the tender.

Kessels 2nd season- 19g 18a=37pts -6
Seguins 2nd season- 29g 38a=67pts +34

I'll take Seguin all day. Seguin will record higher totals than Kessel this season.

What does this even mean? Answer the question, would you rather have Kessel or Seguin + Hamilton + Knight?
