I dont disagree the Oil is top heavy. But, lets see if Tambellini addresses it, or if he just hoards like Snow
- kindlyrick

I think he needs to hoard. Edmonton doesn't need to rush, they're doing just like Pittsburgh did. Tambellini is smart, calm, and patient - he'll pull the trigger at the right time.

so who else would you rather fill the roster spot with? Have you seen the current corps of Islander D? If we take Redden from the Rangers we will definitely be getting a compensation pick, probably a second rounder. So what?? We have so much to spend and if he really sucks throw him down in Bridgeport or waive him. Lots of teams with cap space will be providing relief and they'll make good on the deals.

we have 50.2 mill dedicated to this season and 31.5 mill next season....

Bailey, Hamonic, Wyshart, and Joensuu are RFA's next season,
Boulton, Nabokov, and Reasoner UFA's next season,

I think we have some wiggle room...

really? I see about 22 teams closer. The Isles have a horrible defense, one forward line, and the goaltending situation will forever be in question until the team buys out Double Penetration.

2013/2014 Roster (hypothetical)

Moulson/Tavares/Strome
Nino/Nelson/Bailey
Okposo/Frans/Ulstrom
Martin/Cizikas/Joenssu

Streit/Hamonic
DeHaan/Donovan
AMAC/Carkner

Nabakov/Poulin/Nilson

Lets say the isles extend Streit (hypothetical)........that roster right there is a playoff team. Even if its a 7th or 8th seed......its a playoff team, and thats without ANY additions. Thats straight up homegrown........imagine if they brought in a player like Evander Kane, or PK Subban and sprinkled that into the above roster? Now we're competing.

Im not into hoarding.......im into the rebuild, but after 5 years, its time to make moves. You cannot just keep drafting.

where's Grabner?

That team is a piece of poop I'm sorry. After your top forward line you have nothing! Defense sucks! Come on man.

I took the liberty of releasing Grabner.......if you ask me HE SUCKS

That team does not suck. Defence does not suck either. But again.....its my opinion.

not sure hed be on my wish list...not sure how much more he has left in the tank. and, i expect the isles to be in the playoffs next year, not sure the timing would be right for iginla...seems more of a chasing-returns kinda move.

But he's not played against NHL players in 3 years. Not to mention he was put on waivers and surely one of the 29 other NHL teams could have added him if they thought he was able to produce. But, noone claimed him....

Regardless........for 6.5 shmill, i say no thanks.

- kindlyrick

I'm not disagreeing with you. Just saying he is better than 90% of our D corps and he hasn't played in the NHL a little over one season not three.

Nabokov is free agent so I would look to start unloading him ASAP. I thinking maybe Nabokov and Bailey to Chicago for Leddy or Hjalmarrson.

Nino needs to be given first or second line minutes right off the bat this year. Enough with this earning a spot crap.

Why not? Brad Boyes is already slotted for the first line and he scored eight goals last year

If that offer sheet is going to cost 4 first rounders, i agree its not worth it. But i dont agree that they will be top 5 picks. They'll be more like top 20 picks, but, i wouldnt part with 4 first rounders for PK.

Having said all that, see what the Habs would want for him. I dont see any reason why the isles cant give up a prospect and two picks for a proven NHL dman.

ok so Isles have 19 mill in cap space this season.... WTF! How much money do you need??? Next season, 32 mill in cap space. Like come on, teams like the Isles are going to absorb salary and get compensated for it. The Isles will just ride this shorten season out and try to get everything they can and turn it into picks. This team will not spend or trade until they are playing in their new arena. In saying that, no players will sign here or want to be traded until the team has moved.

I think we have to forget this idea there are no good players for the Isles to trade for. Forget about star players. If Garth with all the propsects and draft picks cannot find some decent talent it's time to call it a day.

Reinhart won't be ready for at least 2-3 years. Petrov and Brock are on the bubble but really, they'll be nothing more than third and fourth line guys. Kabanov is a loose cannon and he'll never come to the NHL. The rest, bye bye.

To answer your question, " who would I bring in thats available"?

Well thats impossible for me to answer. It's a baited question and you know that.

Thats what you do. You disagree and try to trap with a question that cant possibly be answered by anyone who doesn't have inside knowledge of the coming and going of an NHL Organization.

But I'll play your game.

I've seen Gretzky, Messier, Staal, Pronger, Robinson, Esposito, Jagr and a host of other Stars who would seem to be untouchable TRADED.

So NO ONE is untouchable in my opinion and everyone is available for the right price. But that doesnt mean we have the pieces to meet everyone's price and even if we did. It doesnt mean that it would be a good deal for us if we did.

So having said that. There are a few players out there that I would love to have on the Isles that would improve us and tell the team, fans and the players of the NHL that the Isles mean business.

Are they available? I can't say. You cant say. Hell I dont think the GM's of the involved teams could say unless an acceptable deal were put on the table.

But here are a few players that I think would make a decent addition to our 1st line: Long term taking us well into Brooklyn and yrs after.

Bobby Ryan- we've discussed this to death. I'd love for us to make a play for him.

Evander Kane- would have to play off wing with JT but I dont think it would be a problem. He can score. Hes young and hes tough. The only thing that would break up this line is MM retiring.

Jason Pominville- The guy scores goals. Only 30 yrs old. I could see MM, JT and JP scoring 120 goals playing together for the next 3-5 yrs.

If we were to go a shorter term FIX. Not preferable but better than what we have been doing and at a lesser cost and shorter term than above:

Eric Cole- Can score and provide Veteran leadership.

Marty St Louis- Yes he's getting old but he's still productive and I believe has at least two good yrs left. Great work ethic and a skilled vet.

Jerome Iginla- He doenst seem to be slowing down all that much. Great guy to teach JT and others the ropes while still playing some good hockey.

but wouldnt you prefer to take that 6 million that wang is "allowing" for this "redden deal", break it up and spread it amongst a few players who at least have upside as opposed to an aging vet who wont be that useful once the isles are ready to compete?
- LetsGoIsles

Who? We've had mucho money to throw around and it was spent on guys like Pandalfo and Rolston.

I'd rather they sign Cam Barker to a 1-2 year deal. He's marginally better, still has gas left in his tank and a lot more motivation to succeed than Redden does. I've seen Redden a lot in Hartford, he's probably not exactly killing himself out there, but he's not even their best defenseman on most nights.
- shinkdew

Not saying Redden is good by any means but Barker absolutely sucks.

Nelson is in there......the rest are developing. Who knows whats gonna happen with Petrov as he's been MIA since day 1. Anders Lee might end up back in the draft, and the rest should be in bport next year.

Gotta agree with Black, at least as we sit here today. There are no proven goal scorers on any of those forward lines outside of Tavares and Moulson, and no proven NHLers outside of those two and Nielsen and Martin, for what they are.

On D, deHaan and Donovan would get creamed going against a Flyers, Bruins, Rangers, Penguins, etc. forecheck.

I'm also still not entirely sold on Nabokov in net for this season, let alone next.

Maybe those forwards bring it this year and that roster's not so bad heading into next. In general, this team either needs to have no fewer than three forwards finally prove themselves in games that matter this season, or else it needs a major overhaul before next season.
