He had a lot of money to work with and still couldn't produce a winner. I would pass...he's a good standup guy for the media...wouldn't get along with Wang.

Too much money.....and too much insistence from above on spending it uselessly, like our neighbors to the west used to be before the last lockout forced them to smarten up. Toronto will apparently never smarten up in that regard. That said, you nailed the reason why he would never be our GM....

Something from Islanders Point Blank:

The Sound Tigers have signed Jack Combs and Chad Costello, a move in preparation for losing players to the NHL. They are both forwards.
Probably means two forwards coming up to the big club...probably Nino and Ullstrom...

I hope Nino stays in Bridgeport for a full yr. I dont believe 3 1/2 months in the AHL is enough to prepare him for another NHL season considering what a failure his rookie season was.

I can see the Job interview going something like this

Wang: Brian what do you think you can do to improve the Islanders and help with this never ending rebuild?

Burke: I think in order to speed up the process you need to spend some money and bring in some quality players.

Wang: Excuse me Brian did you say spend money?

Burke: Yes that's what I said.

Wang: Thanks for coming in my secretary Alice will show you out.

Wang: (raising his voice) Garth where is my lunch?

For those who need clarification on my rating system.

Note: Slight (30%) Sarcasm

01-30% = Slight

31-60% = Moderate

61-90 = High

91-100% = Extreme

There we go. Now everyone from the least educated & overly concussed, to the Highly Educated & completely full of themselves, can rest easy and understand my extremely complicated Rating system.

You're going to need a full-page safe harbor statement at the end of every post by the end of this.

based on the updated comments from the KHL president, kiss LV goodbye. He's not coming back.

So the Isles D:

streit
amac
carkner
hamonic
donovan/ness/martinek?/reinhart?

fugly. Get us some help Garth. That's not gonna win many games.

I expect that Reinhart gets sent back to juniors, Martinek is signed and donovan/ness end up filling the 6 and 7 spots. As soon as Martinek is injured, Ness and Donovan both in the lineup.

all I know is if Reinhart were to make the team this year we'd end up with two Wisharts.

Martinek is reliable when he's on the ice, so that'll be about 20 games if he signs for the 48 game season.

How did he look during the WJC?

I only saw him very briefly and the reports on XM radio concerning him weren't all that encouraging. They said he was the 6-7 D man on the squad and was used in various defensive roles but not logging many minutes.

As I said I didnt really watch much of the WJC and when I did I only saw him briefly. So I dont know if what I heard was accurate.

He basically said that he felt the contracts in the NHL should be null and void based on the lockout and the new CBA. He's not as of right now, honoring the agreement between the KHL and the NHL.

My opinion is this guy feels now is his chance to really compete with the NHL as far as having talent in his league. What its really going to come down to is, 75 percent of the top talent in the NHL are N Americans who are never gonna want to move to Russia when they can play hockey in say Tampa Bay, or Anaheim.

Sidenote: I think this is exactly the reason why the owners should have not let this lockout go on as long as they did. They knew that there were other leagues and locking out their players forcing said players hands to generate income (playing over seas). You reap what you sew....

totally agree...lockouts have huge repercussions; both tangible and intangible.
