Really strange timing. Wonder what happened there.
- Pete V

He hasnt had success there, but yeah, very weird timing. Maybe the owner didn't like how he handled the lockout? Shot in the dark.

It almost have to be something like that. To Ragsy's point, he hasn't had success there, but firing now just seems strange unless there was some acquisition that he wanted to make that the owners just didn't agree with.

I am kind of thinking if it's possible he is fired because he doesn't want Luongo, not because he does.

The guy Nonis who is replacing him is the one who acquired Luongo from Florida for the Canucks.

Yeh, it could be that as well. Some fundamental dispute as to which direction to go. Maybe you're right, and Burke who has always been against the retirement contracts, wants no part of Luongo whereas the owners do.

Cool. All of Fender's models seem to get a good natural overdriven sound.

As for Burke, remember he abhors those long-term, front-loaded contracts like Luongo has. Maybe that has made him hesitant to pull the trigger on a trade for him and the ownership in Toronto is tired of Burke putting his professional ethics ahead of improving the roster. His refusal to due those long-term deals has cost them opportunities to sign key free agents such as Brad Richards in the past.

It is strange now that the NHL has really curbed those in the new CBA though that it would matter what his feelings on those contracts are. My best guess is there was simply a disconnect between ownership/upper management and Burke. However it is curious that his right-hand man, Nonis, was elevated to the role. If I was the decision maker in Toronto and was tired of Burke I would have made this move earlier and dismissed Burke's lackey too.

I have always had a couple of acoustic guitars laying around that I fumble with, I know the basics, typical chords. But I am gung ho about playing electric now, been watching a lot of stuff on youtube, learning Floyd and Zeppelin stuff, my personal faves.

I don't know if that will work, Luongo was barely able to handle the playoffs in Vancouver, doubt he'll be able to survive in Toronto.

that's just silly. do you know if the amnesty buyout clause indicates that the players bought out have to be on the current roster. I'm wondering if a player acquired after the new CBA is in place could be bought out afterwards. Could Toronto acquire Lou and then buy him out at the end of this or next season?
