I really don't agree with that. I think Vanek is a stud. I like Vanek so much more than Pominville. 26 gets too much hate because he can't fly like other players. He's the most natural goal scorer we have and he works his ass off while taking a beating. If Vanek isn't on, this team goes nowhere. He's a huge powerplay presence and he's one of the few players with individual skill that not many players in the league have.

I would have given him the C last year. I think he would have run with it.

Nope. That's part of why he hasn't been hired yet. Most of the teams looking for coaches want someone offensively minded and he's a defensive coach.

Don't worry when it's Miller or Myers who have slumps everyone and their mother is ready to run them out of town. For some reason people have a love affair with Vanek, I cant figure it out. He is a very good not great player who like you said disappears for a good 20-30 games per season.

Your point is his minor penalties and bad second half make him deserving of criticism. Sure, he deserves criticism, not hate.

The team isn't better without Vanek, unless you bring in a guy who scores 40.

He didn't have a good second half. Does that mean you discount the excellent first half where he had 39 points before January 1? You can't say he sucked in the second half but ignore the great first half.

No. I doubt that would work though. Really the Jets DC is just a title. Rex calls all the defensive plays. That's why I don't want the guy that's been there the last few years.
