I think it would be a wise choice to sign Hecht to a short-term deal. We need some back-up centers. I think people are a little too harsh on him, I think he can be effective if he is healthy. I don't know how well Hodgson or Ennis will play, if they start to slip we will need to fill that void... who are our other depth centers? Ellis? McCormick? I like Hecht over them to be honest. - rsj2588
I don't like McCormick on this team anymore, he makes way too much for what he does IMO
The problem isn't what he have, it's what the other team will offer for it. Unless it fills a need for us, I don't think it would be wise to move guys for for the sake of moving guys. I don't want anymore wingers. I want someone that is a bonafide center. - HonkFortheGoose

I don't like him or Ellis. Don't get me wrong, they bust ass out there and I appreciate that, but I need guys to be out there that are really going to make a difference and neither of them did that last year.

Except Terry told him he had a job for life. - sippyd
Nobody said he wouldn't be with the organization. Just not as coach. It's possible they could put him into a different role. Like assistant GM or something.
Not that it's a good idea or the best option either.

Agree. I don't think there is much trade value in the dmen we would want to unload: Leopold, Weber, Brennan. They aren't trading McNabb or Myers or Regehr (sends a bad message given how they pushed to get him).
This is a team in transition. To me, it's a make or break year. Lots of the "Core" still around, but there's a new crop (Hodgson, Ennis, Foligno, Myers, McNabb, Ehrhoff, and to a lesser degree Grigorenko/Girgensons/Armia/McCabe).

I think McCormick was a perfect 4th liner in 2010-11
not pleased with the results in 2011-12

Honestly, you'd be surprised what you can get for Leo. He's a solid guy that can log pretty big minutes. He's not going to win you games, but he's not generally going to lose them for you either. For a team like Philly that really just needs help because of the injuries they had, he'd be a decent option because his contract is up at the end of the year.
They were talking on the radio about how McNabb has been a healthy scratch recently but I don't think that has anything to do with his play per say as it does the fact that they have a lot of options back there and with the schedule getting more intense they've been rotating them in and out to keep all of them involved. Pysyk was a healthy scratch on the 28th and then played the 29th. That being said, I'm not interested in trading away either of them. That pair is going to be a formidable bunch in another year or two.
if ennis and coho do not stay healthy, the team is doomed either way
and coho needs to take the next step - homiedclown
Yeah we really are doomed if they don't play well. I don't see bringing Grigs up this year is a wise choice. Who else in Rochester? Adam?
I like the idea of bringing in Gagner from Edmonton... the only problem is that he is just as risky as Ennis and Hodgson in terms of production. I think it would be advantageous for us to trade for another wildcard like Gagner rather than have 4 "7th man" defensemen.
Another thing I like, even though they wouldn't put up points, is having the "goon squad" line. Scott - McCormick - Kaleta. That line would intimidate/piss off any team.

is it wrong that I think Foligno is every bit if not more important then Vanek? - homiedclown
Foligno is more important because of the physical factor he brings. Vanek doesn't matter so much as long as everyone else is producing. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they could get something good for him. In a lot of ways, we don't need him. But we do need a big time center.

My only thought is if Vanek is really good, he scores 40 (in a normal season, of course).
Foligno scoring 20 in a normal scheduled season to me would be excellent.
What I want to see out of Marcus is the same passion as last year. Hit people. Go to the goal. Use your IQ to make plays. I'm more excited about his future than Grigorenko's.

I love the game Foligno plays. I hope he comes out in his first game and hits someone just like he did in the Toronto game at the end of the year. That's what I want to see from him on a nightly basis. Even if he doesn't get on the score sheet, he'll be making an impact out there. I'd be happy with 20 goals from him as well.
