For what its worth , Sabres and Oilers are supposedly talking about Gagner with Mcnabb mentioned.

And that the Sabres are generating a bit of attention regarding their glut of NHL ready dmen.

That's a bad Eklund rumor. I know, bad Eklund rumor = redundant.

I don't know how I feel about Hecht. I've hated his game for about 2 years. He's scrambled eggs and there's stories about him completely ignoring Lindy and not working hard enough. If we actually had centers, I think this would be a dead issue.

I think the only reason it really even came up is because of Pominville. If he didn't say anything to Regier, I don't know that they'd be looking at him. In terms of our team depth, since it is poor down the middle, it's not a terrible idea. So long as the contract is for like $1 mil or something like that.

He makes me nervous. I feel like there's so much hype around him he's never going to be able to play up to those expectations. It will probably end up ruining him. If that doesn't, Ruff certainly will.

I'd rather flip one of our surplus d-men for a center. I think Hecht is all done here it's time to move on.

I think it's Ruff's last year if they don't win a playoff round and he will open it up more up front.

I agree. I'd rather do that as well. Might as well get something for something else you don't have room for. I just don't know if any of the options are really going to be all that great. At least at this point we know that Hecht is decent defensively and has a good rapport with Pommer.

This is in no way me endorsing it. I just wouldn't completely hate it either.

I hope you're right. I just don't know anymore. I'm not overwhelmed with joy by this roster, but at the same time that might be a good thing.

Talked to someone who would know and he says they'll give him every opportunity to make the team. He might make it by default. Third line with him centering Ott and Leino could be interesting.

My problem with Hecht is that if they re-sign him, I worry that they will depend on him too much. He's a third liner or maybe a 4th liner at best. I don't want him on the powerplay. I don't want him on the first or maybe even second pk.

It's sad that we are talking about him. It calls attention to how awful we are at center.

My personal opinion: I don't think the squad as currently constructed makes the playoffs. I don't like our scoring. I think we overrate the dmen.

Ultimately, the team goes where 30 takes them.

I would be ok giving hecht a shot on the 4th line with spice man and kaleta

move him up to third line if we have an injury and he has the wheels

part of me feels he would be carted off on a stretcher at some point if it happened though

We are so deep on defense I think Darcy will flip some of that for an upgrade elsewhere atleast I hope he does. I'm really curious how the trade market will be coming out of the lockout.

I really think they need to roll 3 lines to have a shot instead of playing D first

If Miller is close to an upper level goalie and if Myers steps up and Regehr returns to Flame form, they can afford to take more chances up front and play exciting hockey.

I don't know that we're really that awful at center. By the end of the year we could feel completely differently. The problem is everything we have at center is very unproven. It could turn out awesome or it could turn out to be a complete mess. I think that's where Hecht comes in. He's a fairly steady guy. A veteran presence. It makes sense, but I don't know that I'm in love with the option either.

I think they could make the playoffs, but it depends more on the health of the team more than anything and that's even in question right now since apparently Myers could miss some time to start the season.

I think it would be a wise choice to sign Hecht to a short-term deal. We need some back-up centers. I think people are a little too harsh on him, I think he can be effective if he is healthy. I don't know how well Hodgson or Ennis will play, if they start to slip we will need to fill that void... who are our other depth centers? Ellis? McCormick? I like Hecht over them to be honest.

The problem isn't what he have, it's what the other team will offer for it. Unless it fills a need for us, I don't think it would be wise to move guys for for the sake of moving guys. I don't want anymore wingers. I want someone that is a bonafide center.

The shorter year may be a good thing for Miller. He's really the wild card here. If he's on his game for most of the next few months, they'll make the playoffs. If he's not right in any way though, they're screwed.
