Don't care where the 1st game is...as long as I get to finally see some hockey
- Whatnot78
should be a good gauge of how dispapointing the "season" will be right out of the gates.. the last few seasons the sabres start out good for about10 games suck for the next 30 then kick it in and miss the playoffs by a point or two. If that is the case we should be in line for that top pick, but we will lose the lottery draft and still pick around #12.. |

I think the shortened season could really help a team like the Sabres. If they can be consistent they can land a playoff spot in this short sprint.
I think you'll see some teams on the outside looking in this year that otherwise would not have happened in the longer season. |

The fact that Miller has been staying in shape by having Andrew Peters take shots on him doesn't give me a vote of confidence for this season. |

i think offseason conditioning is going to be the biggest factor in this season... which team has the most players that either played in the AHL or went to europe, that will play a huge role. |

I agree... Enroth may outshine miller this season.. at least early on. |

It could go in a few different ways. The guys that have been playing might start hot and then get worn down just like any other year and the guys who havent played might start slow and stay fresh. Who knows though, every player is different. |

it is going to be a sprint though.. mental and physical conditioning are going to mean more this year than in any other season of late |

Actually he has been training with Sidney Crosby this whole lock out for what its worth |

So now Sidney knows all of his soft spots.. If buffalo puts miller in against pitt it is surely a high scoring game for pitt and most likely a loss |

Not really, on a few occasions. Sid was in Pittsburgh at Southpointe for the lion's share of the lockout skating sessions.
There were a few occasions, like in Phoenix that they did practice together. |

So the Bills run a 4-3 D and spend millions on guys that run the 4-3 D and we hire a guy that runs a 3-4 D? |

He runs a hybrid, don't assume its a lock that we go back, Jets switched to more 4-3 at times and he runs the 46. A good DC will look at the players he has and adapt his schemes to fit them best. Hope that's the case here. Jets defense has been top 10 the last 4 years, 4-3 or 3-4.. who cares! whatever works |

Next year, with the likely additions of Grigorenko & Armia, our top9 forwards will be set... And pretty freaking good IMO
Even though we have 10 "NHL" defensemen,
IMO, only TWO of them are "top4" guys...
Ehrhoff & Myers
Leopold is ok, same with Regehr I guess...
But both are UFA after the season... Which is fine, bc although I don't really dislike either guy, Regehr has clearly "lost a step" (ala Craig rivet) and Leo is basically just an average guy...
If we REALLY wanna compete for the cup,
We need a really good 2nd defensive pairing!
Im a HUGE fan of McNabb, and think he'll be even better than Myers! They looked good paired together last year & can eventually be a dominant "shutdown" tandem, but they're both young... So for arguments sake, let's list them as the "2nd" pair as they gain some experience...
Going forward, that leaves us w needing a partner for Ehrhoff...
Can we get a guy like "shea weber" for this season?
Doubtful
But that's what this team REALLY needs-
One stud top pair "defensive" defenseman
The reason I bring all this up is bc of the discussion on what defensemen we should look to trade
Brennan, Sekera & Leopold prob have the most value
If the Sabres are thinking like me...
Then none of those three have a place in my top 4 going forward...
So I say, TRADE all three!!!
Defensemen always have inflated values deadline time...
And they might also right now with teams like Edmonton, Philly & Ottawa supposedly in great need
Let's get as much as we can for them at some point this season
Then we have the "chips" in the offseason to try & get say Seabrook if Chicago is in cap trouble, or Edler if Vancouver doesn't want to pay him...
Or my dark horse guy that no one will bring up...
Giordano from Calgary
Calgary has 64.3mil committed to just 14 players for next year... AND that doesn't include "franchise" player Iginla who is UFA
Even if they buyout Bouwmeester,
That still gives them less than 7mil to try & re-sign Iginla and 9 others
Calgary will rebuild
And if we make smart moves this season & get value for our "extra" defensemen, we can be in a good spot to pluck somebody from another teams' roster next season
Another guy I like...
Girardi from the rangers
If they don't buyout Richards, gaborik or Nash...
They'll be tight against it
And a good young defensive prospect (we have many) and some draft picks and/or prospects we could acquire in trades this year...
It just might be enough to poach an important "piece" from a team next offseason
I'm psyched we have hockey THIS year,
But let's not forget what's best for "the big picture"
I know Darcy isn't |

Not psyched at all about our co-ordinator choices...
But I guess we'll see
Frankly,
Unless we find a QB and get some LBs that can make a tackle,
It prob won't matter a whole lot who we bring in anyways |
