how soon people forget.
PA was a fa signing, we didn't give up a draft pick for him. Snow kept him and kept trying to sign him but he opted for Jason Blake type money. Same result? I bet it will be.
Roloson - how much did Tampa like him last year? Not much unless they wanted to miss the playoffs. He was a 40 y/o goaltender...what more did you want back?
Smyth - nothing we traded ever developed into anything of value. Smyth didn't resign, well, can't fault snow for trying, we offered more dough than the avs and he walked.
LV - I don't blame Snow, I blame the player. Wishy washy as hell and he may eventually be forced to show up.
TBH, I think most of this negativity is left over Milbury hate. Snow started with NOTHING. Nothing in the farm, nothing on the roster. Looking at what we have right now, I'm pretty happy with the majority of it. I dislike DP still being on the team (Wang's contract, and his decision) and I wish we had brought in another defender, however, Hamonic's injury makes the depth look awful with LV in the KHL. If everyone had shown up, Donovan/Ness/Dehaan would have been 6-7 on the depth chart and he did not want to shut out the kids - no point drafting all these prospects if you're not going to make room for them.
Martinek coming back would be a good short term solution, there are better solutions, but I can live with that. In fact, even if Hamonic is healthy, LV shows up, I'd still be okay with them signing Martinek to a one year deal as insurance. - Isles_since_6
So, with you're logic it means why might as well get nothing back for him?
Ask how Tampa liked Roloson when they were in the playoffs and had an awesome season with him? Whens the last time you could say that about an Islander goalie?
Smyth was a good trade and I like it to this day as far as everything else I 100% do not agree with you. |

I didnt say anyone was going to buy his jersey, but holy cr@p I remember three people applauding Kirk Muller when he did one or 2 things good in his career here.

Just because a fan applauds doesn't mean they are applauding a player individually. Why is this a hard concept? |

You have said the same thing for the last three years, you do realize that right? - Cptmjl
No... I have said we need to rebuild through the draft, and replenish the shelves.
After the 5 years of doing that.... then you have enough pieces to make trades and complete your team.
After this year... it's time to make the move.
With the move to Brooklyn, the CBA that favours the Isles, some extra coin to make some moves... this is his time to shine or move on!!!
Again you have youre facts mixed up!!! |

He should have been traded at the deadline. End of story!! - Vukota
to his credit, Snow tried up until july 1st to resign him because if he'd been traded, the comments would have been "snow didn't even try and sign him!" or "all we got was a third round pick??"
this was a lose/lose situation. Snow wanted him back but not at a ridiculous price and wasn't willing to pay what PA got (thankfully, that's too much money)
either way you can say Snow would have been at fault. To Snow's credit, when he does decide he doesn't want the player, he does get something back. Remember Campoli and Comrie for a 1st?? |

so a 40 year old goalie is worth exactly what? A low grade prospect. Because he got hot during a playoff run you think it was a bad deal? How about the crap season Roloson had last year? Now it's a good deal? Fact, 40 year old goalies are not worth much. This is Roloson we are talking about... not martin brodeur ffs.
ps, tampa did NOT have an awesome season with him. He got hot in the playoffs and played well, then absolutely stunk it up last year. Stunk.it.up.
Wishart was a reasonably well regarded prospect with issues (plays soft, hasn't developed yet) that had upside, and the downside...well it was a trade for a 40 year old goalie. Who's building a franchise with that as a cornerstone? No one.

Alot more than Ty Wishart. Tampa was a team without a goalie heading to the playoffs and Roloson was a goalie that carried a team to the finals five yrs ago. The guy is a good goalie with a great resume. He was worth more than Wishart to a team like that. It's not rocket science. Ask any Tampa fan what he was worth when they got to see an excellent end to the regular season and watch their team play extremely well in the PO's. Their answer would be a hell of alot more than Wishart. |

thanks for illustrating my point. at 40 years old, 5 years ago is an eternity. If someone said to you, 5 years ago look at Rolston's numbers, would you give up anything of value for him now? Yeah I didn't think so. |

With all the "great" moves people are listing here, you'd think Snow's coming off his second straight Stanley Cup and we're all just mad about nothing. - UIF
OK, you can pick some decent stuff amongst the BS but seriously? I just don't understand this blind faith following this guy has? It's like they are in on some big secret that we aren't and I'm an idiot for thinking logically? I know you don't hate the guy like I do but his "followers" are numb. |

for whatever it's worth, I may defend some of snow's moves but I don't think that everything is fine or everything is good. I believe Wang as an owner creates a handicap for any GM, and limits the amount of moves Snow could make. To his credit, I think Snow has restocked the organization with prospects and has found some talent in bargin bins that has worked out well. Where he's struggled is making the move to give this team a real shot at the playoffs and I don't know whether that's lack of effort or limitations from Wang. I suspect it's our owner.
I know a lot of people here will read my responses and assume I'm a Snow supporter or blindly following the team. It's not a case of black or white for me, shades of grey. I love the team. I'll follow the team, but I will look at what they do as an organization and there are some serious flaws. I just happen to believe the flaws are at the very top. Whether that changes in Brooklyn, I don't know. |
