You should watch Gagner play sometime rather than just parrot what the other rioters have told you.

- sanfordnson

I've seen Gagner play a lot living here in Alberta. The kid has talent, but he still doesn't play the two way game at a high level and he isn't physical.

I'm not saying long-term he isn't better and I'm not say he isn't going to have a better career, but on January 19th, 2013 he os not as good of an all-around players as Higgins or Lappy.

Gagner had 47pts
Higgins had 43pts
Lappy had 19pts (with less icetime and a far different role)

If he isn't, then Higgins or Lappy will play there.

And yes, they are better than Sammy boy at this point because they play in all three zones and not just from the blueline in.

Alright, I guess you're right.

Higgins has played on the second line of the best team in hockey the past two years and Gagner has played on the second line of the worst team in hockey over the past two years.

Gagner must be better

Was just shuffling through some of the new CBA rules and regulations. The question that keeps smacking me in the face the more I get into it: Is the NHL not the most restrictive league in all of sports?

If you think about it, Toronto finishing in the top 8 isn't so far fetched since there will be no eastern vs western conference play and most games are against division rivals. Based on this, it will be hard for one division to be dominant since 60% of their games will be against each other and the rest against their own conference. Boston likely won't be as strong this year, neither will Buffalo. The Leafs are in much better shape than Montreal, and Ottawa is a middle of the road team. New Jersey won't do as well as last year either, so for Toronto to finish 7th or 8th isn't a ridiculous prediction.

The Prediction- this is Vancouver's year

I'm not feeling too optimistic this year, similar to last year I don't think this team is capable of winning a cup until we can put together another consistent scoring line besides the Sedins. A lot of the "insider" guys are throwing around the name of Stephen Weiss in a possible Luongo trade, but I think Tallon would be crazy to make that deal even if he can't sign Weiss. He would be exactly what this team needs though, a true top 6 skilled player and plus he was centering Booth when he scored 30 goals. Also gives our 2nd PP unit a big boost, since once again the unit after the Sedins cannot be relied upon at all.

At this point, we look like a 2nd/3rd place team that's probably going to get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round.

In a crazy shortened season like this anything can happen. But the Leafs will find a way to screw it up.

Kind of comparing apples and oranges though, Higgins has been a winger and Gagner is a center. Gagner has probably gotten more PP time and offensive zone starts than Higgins so that probably helps his numbers as well. I'd take Gagner over Higgins as a second line center, but Higgins is a great 3rd line winger that can play 2nd line minutes if needed.

He'll be better in the NHL guaranteed. He's gonna make Canucks fans forget about Hodgson. With NHL caliber linemates he'll thrive. Just watch.

I hope you're right, no offense but you've been pretty optimistic about almost all of our prospects and from what I've seen from Schroeder in the AHL(probably 4 or 5 games) this year he didn't look like he's NHL-ready, especially not for a top 6 role where he'll be counted on to produce. I was excited about the pick at the time, but he hasn't developed the way that most had projected or hoped. I also don't think he's physical or big enough to be an effective bottom 6 player if he doesn't pan out as a top 6 forward.

Detroit number one and going to the Western Conference Finals? I'll have what you're having.
- YouAreTheGovt

Yeah, that defense looks very weak and some of the top offensive teams in the West are going to light up the Wings. Not to mention that they're key players are a year older and Lidstrom's calming presence is gone.

Yeah, yeah, we'll call it "optimistic".

An undersized 40 point AHLer is gonna light up the NHL.

Can't wait.
