17 goals 17 assists how many did Manny have last year?
- VANTEL

Different roles and quality of linemates. Manny was also coming off of a serious eye injury that forced him to adjust and also change his off-season workouts, etc.

Malhotra started a shift in the offensive zone just 13% of the time and finished his shift with the puck in the offensive zone 40% of the time, usually against the opposing team's first or second line.

Arnott started a shift in the offensive zone 60% of time and finished his shift with the puck in the offensive zone just 51.5% of the time.

The average NHL shift is 30-45 seconds so zone stats make a big difference and so does you role. I didn't watch STL play much but I believe that Backes who's a great two-way forward was the guy that played head to head against the other team's top line. Arnott was given a similar role as the Sedins and other top 6 forwards around the league and only produced 35 points which is pretty weak. There's no way in hell that AV would use him in that same role over the twins and Kesler which means that you would probably be wishing for Manny back pretty damn soon. Don't you think that STL would bring him back if he was really a clear upgrade over a guy like Manny? There's a reason why he's only getting a tryout and no offers.

The funny thing he will be the easiest of them all to dump. Can you imagine someone paying 9.6 Mil for Ovie 8 when he ws benched during the playoffs and PP last year. What will he be like in 3 years. I bet a 34 year old Franzen looks good at 4Mil per, or Ehrhoff in another 9 years.

Maybe we have found the first mistake by the owners in this CBA. There will be a lot of teams complaining in years to come, it's a good thing they're billionares.

LA publicly stated they were not trading him days ago for what thats worth.

Gillis fist pumps.

LA will probably hold on to him till the draft or maybe trade deadline. His value is too low anyway, and there's nobody in the system ready to take the #2 spot and not be horrible at it..

It'll be interesting to see how much Bernier is used though.

Plus he's a solid backup in case Quick ever gets hurt. Depth is gonna be huge this year, players have a short camp and a lot haven't been playing so injuries are going to happen plus in a short season you can't afford to go in a slump as a team. The teams that lack depth/fitness are going to be screwed.

We need a two year answer to center . Gaunce should be ready for 3 rd line in around 2 years. We probably have Hank for 4 years ,Kes for who knows . Manny is done we have Max L other than that we are screwed.

I seen Schroeder play some games this year and the Wolves top line of Schroeder Kassian and Archie still leaves the team outside the playoff picture. Anyone thinking Kass and Schroeder as a Canuck 2 nd line is #$$^^$#& .

Archie and Kass can play 3 rd line but we need a true 2 nd line.

I'm heading for home today, 3pm (3am your time) I'm on a flight to Muscat. I'll be there approximately two and a half minutes before I've got a drink in my hands and I don't expect to stop until I have to come back in 28 days.

Vantel you keep forgetting that you can't see a banner in Edmonton from a Calgary basement.
- A_SteamingLombardi

Actually I get to see the banners in Calgary and Edmonton. We have a box in Calgary and 6 seats on the glass in Edmonton. And those are Stanley cup banners, not just measly presidents trophy banners....

Yep, it's actually good to have two quality goalies this year. If I was Vancouver I'd try to keep Luongo if I could, but you guys have a quality guy in the minors at least.

I think Manny is still solid and under-appreciated for the role he plays, and the stats back it up. It's hard to score goals when you're always starting your shift in the defensive zone against one of the opposing top 2 lines. I don't think he's done at all, in fact he's still a very good bottom 6 player. Maybe next year when Malhotra's another year older and a UFA we can explore other options, but for now I don't think anyone else in our system/team is a better option than him and neither is the UFA market.

I'm not a fan of projecting future lineups with guys who haven't even played a full season in the NHL yet so I won't go there. Prospects are like lottery tickets, you might hit the jackpot, you might just get your money back or you might get nothing. Very rarely do they meet expectations, even the ones with low expectations.

Plus he was undrafted and cut from multiple training camps so I don't have high hopes even if he is on a hot streak in the AHL. Almost every professional hockey player has a hot streak once in awhile(anyone remember Jeff Cowen?).

Gotta catch the d-men to hit them, there's a reason why guys like Lidstrom and Duncan Kieth rarely ever get hit. I hope that one of the big guys MG has drafted/signed end up panning out in the future, it would be nice to have a big physical 4th line that can actually play hockey like the Kings/Bruins had. I'm not a fan of the Volpatti/Weise type guys.

Well we were pretty ineffective 2 nd half last year so if we are going in with mostly the same lineup minus Kes and replacing with Schroeder then this will be the longest 48 games in the history of the NHL . I can't wait for the 4 to ass kickings we will get .

Other teams got better and we worsen. That can't be good.

In his defense, he has been hot since called up from the ECHL where he was hot at the time as well. He was giving Kassian a run for his money on the scoresheet and *net presence*.

Like Boinker pointed out...foot speed is his obstacle from becoming an NHLer..

He scored 6 goals in 7 games ,that is two less than the entire Canuck team scored in the SCF against Boston

I doubt that Kesler is out for the season, we really only need to stay in the race until he gets back. Other teams in our division may have gotten stronger but keep in mind that they were well behind us these past few years so I highly doubt that they're going to turn the tables on us all of a sudden. Edmonton and Minny will have some pressure to start strong, Edmonton especially is becoming the sexy pick to start hot because of how a handful of their kids are lighting up the AHL together. Calgary and Edmonton also have new coaches and short camps to get their systems all sorted out. Colorado, Minny and Edmonton all also have question marks on defense which is one of our strong points.
