Keep whining (frank)ers...How quick some fans are to forget their own teams years at the bottom of the league.
Edmonton never ever played to lose. They simply chose not to try to spend ridiculous amounts of money on over priced free agents and aging players and build through the draft. - Iggysbff
I fully agree with this. New york Ranger nonesensicle spending ALA the 90's. Is a useless way to try and win. And 99 percent of the time it doesnt work out.
But I will say this. The Oilers lucked there asses out getting the number one selection last year, Although the number two wouldnt have exactly been a pile of shyt... |

That or Edmonton is a tough sell to free agents.... |

It's pretty ridiculous. I'm sure Gillis is none to pleased. - Boinker
At least we only have one contract to deal with.Wild just screwed themselves
Suter will be 40 and Parise 41 at the end of there contracts. I wouldn't be surprised if either of them plays past 35, that would leave 4-5 yrs left on the contract. The wild will be dressing truck drivers one day. |

I find it amazing that Bettman and the NHL try to penalize teams that get creative legally (back sliding contract) to win, but do nothing to teams like Leafs and Oilers that play to lose so they can get a higher draft pick.
That's fair. - VANTEL
Exactly. They should have a system like in European soccer where teams that lose like that get bumped down a division. |

I would like to see an even weighted draft for the 14 teams that don't make the playoffs. I bingo ball each. |

Vantel you keep forgetting that you can't see a banner in Edmonton from a Calgary basement. |

Man, I am so excited about hockey starting and NFL playoffs. The changes I made in my business mean I can make $187/hr while watching hockey, football, and Wicked Tuna. Hell, I can watch anything and make $187/hr, as long as the orders keep coming in. - A_SteamingLombardi

I hope you're right, no offense but you've been pretty optimistic about almost all of our prospects and from what I've seen from Schroeder in the AHL(probably 4 or 5 games) this year he didn't look like he's NHL-ready, especially not for a top 6 role where he'll be counted on to produce. I was excited about the pick at the time, but he hasn't developed the way that most had projected or hoped. I also don't think he's physical or big enough to be an effective bottom 6 player if he doesn't pan out as a top 6 forward. - Nucker101
I just think insulating our prospects with our particular core is beneficial to the player and the franchise. If we had a better third line center, at the time, Hodgson wouldn't have made the team out of training camp. He didn't exactly light the world on fire in training camp.
I remember specifically many Canucks fans arguing over who had the better showing Hodgson or Schroeder. Schroeder has improved immensely defensively over the last year and a half. He's always had high end hockey sense and he's played without the puck very well in the defensive zone. AV will like that. Two strong wingers with a defensive presence flanking him will definitely give him confidence in all three zones. Which will help him grow and help his trade value grow, just in case. i.e Hodgson for Kassian. Do you think we would have been able to get Kassian had Hodgson played the first half in the AHL?
But obviously things change in a shortened season, as Gillis eluded to today, when saying there won't be many fresh faces. Points are at a premium right off the bat. This team can still get into the playoffs letting Schroeder start the first few games in the top 6. When Kesler comes back we'll have a better idea on what he can bring. He's never played a game in the NHL. He's due for a showing. |

The funny thing he will be the easiest of them all to dump. Can you imagine someone paying 9.6 Mil for Ovie 8 when he ws benched during the playoffs and PP last year. What will he be like in 3 years. I bet a 34 year old Franzen looks good at 4Mil per, or Ehrhoff in another 9 years.

Fair enough and you make some good points, I've only seen him play a handful of games in the AHL and his stats haven't been impressive either. I've heard that his defensive game has come along way, but at the end of the day he's gonna need to put up points or he won't be in the NHL. |
