Biggest thing is that, as least as of July, he didn't look close to physically mature yet. Still very thin. For a guy whose bread and butter is a physical, gritty game, he's going to need more strength.

He's been putting up points lately -- especially while Jenner and Biggs were away for the WJC -- but I just don't see him ever being more than about a 12-goal per year player in the NHL. His shot and shot release are unremarkable and he's not a high-end playmaker either.

that doesn't sound very promising. why do the flyers take him in the first round then?

I would like to see Jason Arnott get an invite to camp. Dominic Moore too. I think one or the other could be a good 4th line center. That way Talbot can play the wing. Arnott will give you a little more offense too.

As thin as the blue line is, I would just as soon see the Flyers adjust their current system to paper over that weakness than make a silly trade at this point.

I'm getting a lot of the same feeling from the twitterverse, from guys that are really tuned into the CHL & OHL specifically. I'd want him be be 100% ready-basically meaning he could step into a 3rd line role if need be-before committing to him sticking.

It definitely sounds as if he's not at that point yet.

Mike Commodore would be interesting, if only because he would be badgered (again) to wear #64.

Yeah I was wondering that the other day. Seems like a stretch for the first round. esp when they really need dmen. I dunno

Saw Andy Delmore score a hat trick in the playoffs against the Pens back on May 7, 2000 (the game after the 5 OT marathon). Flyers won 6-3 and took a 3-2 series lead. My first playoff game too.

Trouble is, he's very much like what they already have-stay at home, defensive defenseman type. Maybe slightly better than what is on hand, but doesn't really fill a need.

Small chance of winning a cup, depleted blue line, certainty of more disastrous injury, What are we waiting for?

I've read a lot of stuff on twitter about Laughton's readiness too, and I think the only reason he would make this team is if the Flyers traded a guy like Brayden Schenn for blue line help.

Maybe its because I remember the dmen of the early 90s, but I don't think that the d is that bad.

that's a good first playoff game to see. mine was game 4 against the devils in the 95 ecf when marty got chased and the flyers tied the series. sadly, my next game was game 5.

I think that the Flyers inviting him to camp and their history of "hurrying" 1st rounders to the NHL give birth to this

PUtting my semi-serious cap back on, but i think the problem is that the personnel don't match up with the scheme. To me I'd tell the coach to tweak his tethers to match the horses. But that's just me.

what's the harm in bringing him in for a quick look? gives him a chance to meet the players and staff and see what will be expected of him.

I've only been to one other playoff game: 12 years later, Game 1 of the East Conference Semi-finals against the Devils. The Flyers last win.
