And how do they get Richards without drafting Schenn 5th overall? With magic? Doughty? 2nd overall? Magic?
The problem you have is realizing that teams that trade youth for immediate results are at a very distant stage of the process compared to the Leafs. When you figure that out, maybe you'll be on the right page. - Two_For_Truth
And when have the Leafs traded away young talent for old vets since Burke's been GM?
Again..I'll wait |

Burkie didn't look to pleased with the team or himself during the "truck off the cliff" speach or the two weeks of hiding he went into during that spin. - The Law
Are you referring to Feb-March of this year?
You didn't see much of Burke for reasons not related to hockey.
Or put another way, because of women he wasn't related to by marriage. |

I like a lot of the wheat beers... some of them taste a little too much like cloves.

Nope. Joseph wasn't even top five of his generation. Roy, Brodeur, Hasek, Belfour and Barasso / Vernon all have him beat through the 90s with Cups, Vezinas and Conn Smythes. - Two_For_Truth
Oh man, haven't heard Barasso's name in so long! Talk about a roller coaster career. Always one of my faves. |

Yup. That's been BB's MO.
He tends to stockpile young talent until it's time to make a move and contend for a cup - and then he goes out and lands the 30yr old vets that'll get you over the top.
Suggesting that he'll all of a sudden do the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of what he's done his entire career is absolutely unfounded, and frankly - moronic. - Pen15

I can't believe I'm even feeding this kind of behaviour....
He's literally creating a scenario out of thin air...and parading it around like fact.
None of his posts are based off of legitimate thought process and logical judgement, yet it's posters like him that drive this sites hits through the roof. |

Sign me up for either one of these two over Luongo.
Like him or hate him, Burke looks like a FKing genius right now. This could be the most active off-season we've seen in decades, and several teams are simply screwed.
Leaf fans should send Donald Fehr a thank you card. No roll-backs of existing salaries is the most advantageous thing to come out of this lockout for us. - Leeman4Gilmour
I wouldn't mind seeing Thornton if the price is right, though I'd rather have Getzlaf.
Marleau, on the other hand, makes my stomach convulse. He's a consistent flake |

Really?
Widely regarded as the biggest d-bag to ever play in the NHL.
My favourite Barbumhole moment: was at a Leafs game at the ACC when Tommy was on the roster. Hmmmm, only one goalie for the warmup. That's weird. I hope Tommy isn't injured.
Nope, turns out when he found out he wasn't starting, he was so pissed he refused to watch the game from the bench.
I know goalies are weird, but c'mon.
Anyhoo, not a HHOFer. |

As we all know, those are the only indicators of talent.
Sundin never won anything, either. - Leeman4Gilmour
Sundin wasn't among the best of his generation either nor was he phenomenal. As a Leaf, he was phenomenal because nobody else on the Leafs was anywhere near his talent level but on the grand scale, it's a different story. Sundin was good enough to make the HHOF based on his accomplishments as a Swedish player. Being the first to do a lot of things etc. That doesn't make him phenomenal when you compare him to guys like Sakic or Yzerman. |

Isn't that what you want though?
Aren't you the one on here advocating that Burke tanks the leafs this year in order to get a high draft pick?
If so, I'm sure you'll also be on here protesting his firing if he actually listens to your brilliant plan. - Pen15
It's better for the Leafs if Burke just sits on his hand but it doesn't mean he will. Figure out the difference. |

Burke never makes trades. Keep waiting for him to not make a trade to improve his team. Clearly, being 26th is fine by him and won't get him fired. |

I would kill for Thornton. I've liked that guy since I lived in Boston.
He gets a bad rap - his "playoff choke" was when he was playing with a separated shoulder.
Yeah, he passes way too much, but just imagine him between Kessel and Lupul.

Show me one time Burke didn't sit on his hands to "save his job" and it subsequently resulted in long term ramifications for the organization....
I'm still waiting. |

Shouldn't you be applauding that sort of constraint?
I mean, doesn't finishing 26th give you a shot at the lottery? |
