No ..only 29 ....thats not almost a 30 goal scorer... But 37 is almost 40 - senstroll
Is it fair to say:
Tyler is almost a 30 goal scorer
Phil is almost a 40 goal scorer

I'm sure he's just going to stand pat and watch his team plummets and get his ass gets fired.
Sounds exactly like something Burke would do. - Two_For_Truth
No, really, I realize that you are mentally incapable of changing your mind and admitting it, but step back and look at what you wrote above and think about whether or not Burkie would actually do that.
Media: Why did you go with Reimer as your #1? Everyone told you he wasn't capable.
Burkie: Yes, he is.
Media: You still only have Bozak as a #1 centre - it's killing you in the standings. Why haven't you addressed the problem.
Burkie: there is no problem. I'm happy with the team I've assembled. Mumble mumble mumble found a wallet. B.S. stat that paints Bozak in a good light.
Media: trade deadline is in 3 hours - and although your team isn't mathematically eliminated yet, it's pretty bad.
Burkie: I think the team I've assembled is capable of making the playoffs. One year in Providence, we were down by 12 points heading into March. Blah blah blah.
Just think about it, Uggie. |

He will likely end up in the Hall of Fame one day. If he doesn't, he may be considered the best goalie on the outside looking in.
The guy was a top 5-10 goalie in his generation. If that doesn't constitute "phenomenal", then I'm afraid we have different definitions and you're a pretty tough guy to please. - Leeman4Gilmour
Patrick Roy was phenomenal. Dominik Hasek was phenomenal. Martin Brodeur was phenomenal.
Curtis Joseph was very good but he wasn't phenomenal. Not a single Vezina. Not a single Cup. Nothing. |

I'll tell Burkie you are on board for Luongo.
How many first round draft picks do you think is fair?

Isn't that what you want though?
Aren't you the one on here advocating that Burke tanks the leafs this year in order to get a high draft pick?
If so, I'm sure you'll also be on here protesting his firing if he actually listens to your moronic plan. - Pen15
Aside from the use of moronic....this was actually a very logical post. Kudos dude.
Though truth be told I might've fired him the day Boston stepped to the podium and selected Tyler Seguin. I've forgiven Burke for that one, and have been very impressed with what he's done since. I really like Morgan Reilly. |

Oh, so the solution you believe Burke has in mind is to just keep letting the same problems kill him so he can get fired.
Amazing.
As much as it would be nice to see Burke sit on his hands and not piss away the future, his ass is on the line and he's going to do something to change it whether you want to believe it or not.

Exactly though. If you draft enough good players that people want you can make those moves easily. Much like how Giroux was taking over from Richards and Carter so they could make the moves. You need to keep finding talent and either having them move up, or move out for something you need. |

It's absolutely asinine to suggest Burke would trade away what he has built just to 'save his job'.
There is NOTHING in his history (here or elsewhere in his career) that would suggest Burke would do something like that. |

I don't think Burke sees them as problems. I think Burke thinks he's doing a wonderful job.
I think Burke won't listen to anyone telling him what to do. Especially those telling him what he has done so far is wrong. |

Glad you didn't say a word about Kopitar, Doughty or Quick. I wonder why.
It's funny though, you will try to bring up the Kings in that they won the Cup from 8th place and yet have absolutely no leg to stand on when comparing them to the Leafs because the Leafs don't even have a quarter of the home grown talent the Kings had. |

Phenomenal: Very remarkable; uncommon; extraordinary
Seeing as literally hundreds (perhaps thousands) of goalies have passed through the NHL during the years, and we remember him as amongst the top 40 or 50, I'd say that he is "very remarkable".
Become one of the 5 best in your generation at anything and I'd say that pretty "uncommon" or "extraordinary" (meaning "beyond the ordinary").
Yes, Curtis Joseph was a phenomenal goalie.

Burke can be a bonehead but there is no way that he doesn't see them as problems and there is no way he thinks he's doing a wonderful job when he's drafting 5th overall. He knows his team sucks and he knows the problems. But he also knows there's little he can do about it unless he starts selling the future.
What could possibly push him to finally do that? Oh wait, maybe getting fired? |
