I don't know about you guys but the Piers Morgan/Alex Jones stand-off last night on CNN brought a warm glow to my heart that the return of the NHL couldn't pull off in a million years

Am I comparing Gauthier as a player to Stevens or as a hitter? Please don't make assumptions. Thanks. PS. It was hitting that got Gauthier selected in the first round, problem was he had poop all to the rest of his game.

Heard it on my radio this morning. Pretty hilarious, that Jones guy is a nut.

Funny how people jump on you when you make a reference to HHOF.
Denis Gauthier could hit as hard as anyone has in the history of the NHL.
But people will flame you because people take it as you compared skill.
So we trade Nazem just as he's on the cusp of finally earning a well-deserved spot on this team?!
No way, he needs to play for us. We finally showed patience with a prospect and we dump him just as he's ready to roll
We should not pay anything truly tangible in this for Lu.

Cond. pick(1st if playoffs, second if we miss playoffs.
There's a lot of talk about Raymond, but really, I don't see why there's the fuss, he's overrated. Lombardi's just as good a skater and a guy like mac, who's the same age, can actually bury 20 pucks in a season.
And why get rid of Franson?! Do you know how hard it is to get a decent right-handed Dman who can shoot the puck? Why do people want to get rid of this guy?

2 million for 3 years is fairly important though. Especially for a team that operates at or near the Salary cap. What if thats the year Mckinnon goes UFA?
Why would we do any of this? Luongo is worth Ron Wilson's old coaching notebook, and that's about it. Maybe we'll throw in a pair of tickets to a Leafs game for Gillis and a friend. Maybe.
If the rumors are true, the longer Vancouver holds him, the worse the penalty is for them. He's a ticking time bomb right now. The late first rounder hardly compensates us for taking their headache, even if he is a good goalie.
As for Kulie and Franson for Sam "One Game Wonder" Gagner? I won't even touch that one.
Anyone know when trades can start? Just whenever the CBA is officially ratified I guess. Just wondering. I suppose most won't happen until after this short training camp so teams will have a few days to at least see what they have first.

What if, what if.
By then if profits continue to rise, so will the cap.....it could be over 70 million.
Besides, Mac hasn't even been drafted let alone played an NHL game.
I doubt the 2 million would have an affect.

With a shortened season and the chance at an amnesty dump I'm starting to believe VAN keeps him. They won't get what they want for him and Schneider's not exactly a guarantee himself.
Plus they'll be banking on the Leafs goaltending woes continuing into this season so that they can try to corner BB into overpaying.
And like I said, right-handed Dmen who can shoot the puck are a rare commodity

yeah, you are right....Thornton, Iginla, Dionne, Perreault, Stastny, Lindros, Neely...what a bunch of losers. - Barx
a lot easier to see their individual contributions to their teams.
Luongo is billed as this mythical creature that will single handedly make the Leafs a playoff team.
Fun fact, with Luongo, Florida wasn't a playoff team.
Without Luongo, they still weren't(well, now they are, but I won't make a link there)
They finished in the same general area of the standings with and without Lu
Vancouver, before Luongo- was a playoff team.
Vancouver with Luongo- was a playoff team.
Their position in the standings, on average, didn't change much.
Neither team saw a drastic improvement or drop with/without Luongo, despite all his eliteness and winningnessness.
He's a very good goalie, yes. But when has he been *the* reason for a team to go far? Giggy was that twice. Brodeur's always been that. Hasek was that. CuJo and Belfour were that, Ward was that. Hell even Roloson's been that.
Can't say Vancouver made it to the finals because of Luongo.

Again, what if Luongo doesn't retire early? We're focusing on this penalty (which is problem in its own right), but we're forgetting that he's signed for 10 more years at age 34.
Isn't the more terrifying scenario a 38 or 39 year old with 5 or 6 years left on his deal that can't play any better than a back-up? Oh, and he's a 5.2 million dollar hit.
