And then the first round pick we traded for him goes to the Canucks and we win the lottery and they draft a franchise player first overall - AdamFrench
Pretty much. Its a deep draft this year. Id be thrilled with Barkov, Shinkaruk, Domi, MacK, Monohan, Drouin....
The Canucks have the bad contract and no prospects. Let them suffer. Weve suffered long enough as Leaf fans, nobody saved us from our mess. poop, we had to give the Panthers a pick just to take McCabe. |

Unless Komisarek is going the other way, I can't see the Leafs wanting to do this if costs them one or more of their good prospects. If the Leafs suck, there are some good centres that could draft this season like Barkov, Mackinnon and Monahan. - Thehabsfan93

I don't think there's a hotter player in the hockey world right now than the 29th overall scorer in the WJC's. |

Personally I think if Burke should be trying to make any move it's to bring in a legit #1 centre which I've been saying since Sundin left. If we suck this year then try and poach teams that are going to be in cap trouble next season because of the drop in the cap from this year, pick up some guys who are given those amnesty buyouts, sign UFAs with the extra cap space that you have, etc. Plus we could have a high draft pick in a good draft year and could hopefully get someone good there.
Forget trading for Luongo this season. The Canucks may be giving him away or even buying him out next season anyway. And if not him then someone else will be available.

IF Luongo is the plan, Burke just needs to stay the course and remain patient. Not only will the price continue to drop, but it will give the Leafs a better idea of how to proceed with Luongo and more importantly into next summers draft and free agency.
Seriously, would anyone be upset if Luongo didn't end up with the Leafs?
IMO, given the shortened season and Carlyle's first full year, I think Burke has a pass this season. It's NEXT season when the pressure is on. |

lol, I had to work all weekend with the work load that came in and it made the cold/sinus headaches worse, had to get up early this morning and take my Dad to the airport for his flight to Florida, so I'm calling it a sick day today. |

If you think about it from a business point of view, having Luongo probably means the Leafs make the playoffs every year he's playing for the Leafs. Considering how much money making the playoffs would mean for the Leafs organization, they could potentially think that having him is worth it, even if he retires and the Leafs have to pay a penalty. - Pecafan Fan
already far and away the most profitable business within the NHL... yet another reason why you don't pay much - if anything - to add an asset, regardless of good or bad he may be - with a 45M$ price tag.

Bingo!
Burke's job is safe this season...with or without a playoff birth. |
