OK so now they will be playing hockey... SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Sabres still have not improved one iota and still stink............... - rapperray
No Ray, the Sabres are usually good under Ruff heading towards the end of the season. Hopefully we will get the Sabres that are top 3 in the league down the stretch.

I really dont think Scott gets dressed unless its against teams like Boston & Ottawa. I really just dont see it.
Mancari will see more ice I feel. - BuffaloHardHat
i dont think mancotti is signed by the sabres.. i think he is just a pure rochester signing.
that's not going to get the job done IMO and we can expect injuries on all 4 lines based on history with those players.
call ups would be adam, mancari, flynn?

Not that it was/is a game breaker but losing Tropp stinks for the Sabres. John Scott is a useless plug with really no redeemable qualities. So what if he is "tough". Its not a useful trait in the modern NHL, you need playable toughness. He is not playable. Now acquiring Steve Ott, that is a great move by acquiring playable toughness.

Tropp is/was the perfect 4th liner that can move up a line and not hinder the third line. Sadly Kaleta and the others that will be on the 4th line have no place being on any teams 3rd line.

Any updates on the injured players ?
Coho? Ennis? Gerbe just started skating from his spinal surgery . - cabin
CoHo is fine. I think Ennis is also. He just didn't want to risk it. I think Adam will be the first call up. He's picked up his game lately. Too bad about Tropp. He started out so good. Won't probably see him till midway through next season.
pretty sure thats how he found that ennis , staff and foligno line - lehooplavik
If that line is as good this year as they were last year... it could get pretty scary..
Roy not being on this team is gonna help the Mentality of Pommers and Vanek.. if that line gets hot too.. We could have 3 pretty darn good lines.. with a shortened season.. You never know.

Well it depends on how you look at this... If you believe this is the beginning of the season, which I do, then historically the Sabres suck balls for the first 50 games of the season......... soooooooo what now? Is it the beginning of the season or the end of the season?

I see a top line that consists of Vanek, Coho and Pommer
Vanek is injury prone and an underachiever that is playing out of position and should be flipped to rw and firing from the slot. Center is young with potential but has yet to even go on a streak to justify being a top line center. I have no problem with Pommer.
Second line Foligno, Ennis, Staff
Staff and Ennis get more then their share of injuries. Ennis has just begun to play center at the NHL. Staff is as consistent as a crack addict being up at 10am.
This line has potential but could also struggle for long stretches.
Third line Gerbe, Leino, Ott ( I assume ott takes the face off and moves to the wing). Gerbe is fragile. Leino is Leino. I would like to see Gerbe play center after the face off instead of Leino. I think he would be less likely to get hurt and has the wheels and desire to feed the puck to the wingers more then Leino.
All of this is meaningless because Ruff will throw the line combos out the door by the ten minute mark of the first game.
