With Kimmo being held together by spit and glue, and the uncertainty surrounding Meszaros, throw in Schenn trying to get adapted I'm very concerned about this defense core.
- PLindbergh31

Timonen says he is healthy and ready to go. He has missed maybe a dozen games in his Flyers career. So I don't see how he is being held together by spit and glue. Sure he's 37, and had surgery. But there is no reason why he can't have a solid Season. He's a warrior!

The D definately needs to be addressed next season.

I personally dont think both of Cooties or Brayden Schenn will be around after the summer. The Flyers need to bring in top talent on the back end and something will have to give.

we have the laughton deity, so mountains will be moved to make way for our newest star C.

we could give him up until after '13-14
- isaiah520

That's when I expect to see movement. Under the $70.2mm cap, the Flyers have about $3.5mm. That is before Pronger goes on LTIR.

I said as soon as I saw Bryzgalov's contract, anything short of them winning the Cup with him between the pipes, the contract is an albatross.
- PLindbergh31

Yup.
Unless they expected the opportunity for buyouts in this new cba and planned this all along, the length never really made sense

Personally, I'd trade anyone on the team except G before I trade those 2....
- Giroux_Is_God

If you are another team, and the Flyers come calling for a number one d-man, or a guy with that potential you ask either for Cooties or Schenn if not both.

I am willing to lose one, or both if need be. It will be a painful poop to take but I think it has become clear top d-men are harder to find, and get on to your team than top forwards.

If the Flyers want immediate help I would look at Giordano or Streit.

They wouldnt move either for Weber so who would they move them for exactly?

He's a warrior no question. Hopefully he stays healthy, if he does he will perform very well. Whether it's at a top pairing level that is semantics. He's the best defenseman on the team.

he's a little concerned about how he'll hold up with the condensed schedule, but the time off was actually good for him.

If they're trading Couturier or Bryaden Schenn, they had better be getting a Zach Bogosian or similar quality young defenseman for them. I'm fine with trading from a strength to address a weakness, but not for trading a young cornerstone for a 30 year old all star

I think the Flyers thought they didnt need to move them for Weber. They could price Nashville out of the game.

Looking back, which is easy to do, I believe the Flyers would have been more willing to negotiate with Nashville if they knew the Preds had the ability to match.

Definately. Im not talking about trading for Boyle. If it came down to including Cooties or Schenn (in a possibe package) to get the number one pick and draft Jones.

Would you do it? When I mentioned earlier I would be targeting the #1 pick to draft Jones, thats what I was thinking.

37 coming off of surgery, I would guess so. He's not the player he was when he first came to the Flyers. But he is still top pair quality in this League.

The instability at the position over the last 20 years caused them to overpay to find a solution.

Two contract buyouts and a $64.3 million Cap, sweet. Ok Pronger gets paid.

Can the Flyers buyout Briere or Bryz and then resign them at a lower contract? Obviously they would talk and agree to do this before hand or is a not allowed?

I'd rather move Read and a 1st(maybe a later pick too if need be) and try to get Seth Jones if what Bill is saying about Read and the Flyers is true.

The last time there were compliance buyouts, teams were not allowed to re-sign the players bought out for one year.

If Bryz is bought out, there's a handful of good options this summer. Backstrom & Jimmy Howard, off the top of my head

Read is a great player but is he someone you really want on the 3rd line? The Flyers arent really full of grit in the forward mix as it is.

Ive grown to really like Read, but he is expendable. I would definately be in favor of keeping him as a permanent fixture in the top 6. I think it can be done fairly cheaply.

Dont know if him and a 1st would get you the #1 pick though.

I haven't seen anything official on that. But I'm going to assume that you can't re-sign a player after buying him out.

All depends on where the Flyers finish.
