Then there's no way to ever know the true results.

They might be accurate, however, if the vote was 351-349, it might show how divided they are. Do they had to show a lobsided result.

The truth though is for at lease 200 players, a DoI means the loss of jobs. So there's no way they would have said yes if they are educated at all.

The head of the Union can deside to file for a Disclaimer of Interest for which they would no longer represent the players.

The vote is useless, because Fehr can file a DOI with or without the players approval. The vote is a PR attempt to show how united the players are and to put pressure on the Owners.

The only other positive for the players out of a vote is when they fight the NHL in court. The players can say that X amount of players were OK with Fehr to file a DoI since negotiations were going no where.

- l3ig_l2ecl

If Fehr could dissolve the union when he wanted why was there even a due date on the 2nd ?

200 players would likely be replaced with lesser contracts, or replaced with younger, better, cheaper players.

so no, maybe not loss, but worst for them

- l3ig_l2ecl

Players get replaced all the time for younger/better/cheaper, nothing new. Thats not a DOI issue.

Im not saying DOI wont have consequences, and major ones at that, but how much we will never know, nor which side will eventually benefit/lose more than the other. Simply too many unknowns and legal matters that any of us can honestly say we understand enough of to form a definite opinion on.

I might be wrong also, but I understood that to come from the owners side.
- MJL

You obviously aren't paying attention. There's been plenty of information documented on the NHL's proposals to this point in the negotiations. Please get informed before making random "I might be wrong" statements. Derp

I think what he means is that after the vote, and players give him the apporval to do it, he can file any time without having to go back and ask them if its "okay".

Within the expiry date, of course.

It's a really good question.

1. pressure on NHL
2. With getting an OK from his Union, Fehr can still get paid.
3. pressure on NHL
4. See 1 and 3

He doesn't need the OK from the players. He can at any time he so wants, file a DoI and no longer have legal responsibilities to represent the players.

By putting a due date, it makes it look like Fehr would have made a pressure decision which might have put pressure on the Owners to accept a deal the players proposed. They call their bluff. Now their looking like idiots by voting again...

Just making sure because Eric Macramala was saying on tsn and I quote '' If the NHLPA does not disclaim interest by 11:59pm on January 2, it could always conduct another player vote with a view to authorizing a disclaimer at a later date. That being said, it would be a surprise to see a re-vote. Expect the NHLPA to treat the January 2 deadline as a now-or-never scenario.

I thought Fehr had to wait at a later date to do it and by then it would of been to late...

I heard the players are upset that Fehr didnt file and that because he didnt it showed weakness. They want a revote and this time they want him to file if nothing gets done by the deadline. Just what I heard on TSN radio!

I've got five kids--and the sex gets better as you grow older together--but once in awhile you have to throw a role of quarters in the back yard and tell the kids not to come back until they've picked up every one of them.

Eric Macramala is an idiot. He's the TODAY Show's Star Jones "legal correspondant".

If the players voted yes, and he said no, that means he could of said yes if the players said no. Basically meaning a vote is totally useless.... Common Sense 101

I think you are supremely uneducated on the education levels of NHL players. Also, you do not have the required education level to appropriately educate us all on their educations levels.

In other words...you don't know poop!
