the final outcome of the WJC may of been a blessing in disguise for the NHL

lets be honest.. the canadian and large US markets will be fine once the lockout end regardless.

the ones who will suffer are the smaller and/or non traditional hockey markets in the states

but now, with the US winning gold, the feeling about hockey in the states right now is positive, and will be for the next couple of days at least.

if the NHL and PA are smart.. they will compromise and get a deal done in the next couple days and ride the positive vibe in the US to help recoup some of the american fanbase that this lockout has probably cost them.

the time is now gents, get it done.

And I think that a lot of the changes they're trying to make is going to affect the large market teams and weaken their ability to put a good product on the ice. And do little to help the small market teams become profitable and help them to become franchises that can compete and be successful. It will help some. But why do you want to damage the horses that carry this League? Have a 60M Cap and force a team like Pittsburgh to have to make radical changes to it's roster. Doesn't make sense. NHL has it's head up it's ass.
- MJL

Didn't bettman warn teams to not spend out the ass before the CBA expired? Most of the teams that are in trouble are the ones that tried to lock up their players under the old terms. Can't say they weren't warned.

And this is where he has to take the blame for the lockouts - the only tool he has to slow down the inevitable slide to bankruptcy of those teams is to roll back salaries again and again. The model he created doesn't work.
- Canada Cup

How can you say the model doesn't work? Let's look at a 50-50 split with the lowered cap before we throw away a model that's been in place for 7 years.

And if the model doesn't work, why aren't the players fighting to get rid of the model? Why should they miss paychecks now for a system that will keep asking to take from them in the future?

Yup. Bettman couldn't wait to fix the holes in the system. I want to give bettman at least another CBA before we say its broken.
