Agreed.

My point was that when it comes down to it, owners/GMs don't make business decisions when it comes to signing players - despite all the disingenuous hand wringing about "the business" during the lockout.

They act on ego, not dollars. Therefore, any team can/will sign a big name whether it actually makes sense to do so.

You gotta factor in the player too though. Like Parise & Suter, who reportedly received the highest offers from the Flyers but decided they wanted to play together at home in Minny. But I see where you're coming from.

Look at Wayne Simmonds Cap hit. If Read picks up where he left off of last year, what do you think it's going to cost to re-sign him? I think Read is a better overall player then Simmonds is.

Some people on this site are so in love with Read, they have him cooking team meals, driving the bus, acting as team trainer, playing point on the power play, and if needed, playing backup goaltender. Some people on this site have him as the next Gretzky, only stronger and faster with more skills.

Me. He is very good third liner, good second liner.

"Good" second liners do get paid decently though

No argument. I think the Flyers need (assuming new rules) to identify their core and run with it.

G, Schennx2, Coots, Read, Simmonds, Voracek, Coby, etc...

Well said. It was "fun" watching the Flyers b-slap the Pens last year, but I want to see the sequel.

if the cap ceiling is lowered players salaries should be lowered by the % also so teams don't get completely screwed
lowering the ceiling could ruin some franchises for years to come

CBA by 1/11, camps open 1/12-1/18, games 1/19, which is the drop dead date.

It's either this or "That's all folks"....

This team man....I'm so excited. That could be on par or better than what the Penguins had in Crosby/Malkin/Staal

I agree. I don't see Giroux ever being as good as Crosby or Couturier or Schenn being at Malkin's level. Giroux and Malkin are about even & Couts/Schenn could both be as good or better than Staal.

I think the Flyers could (or maybe do) have more depth as far as high-end talent goes. But on an individual basis? Whether or not we like him, Crosby's probably the best player to enter the game in the last 10-15 years, at least as far as offense is concerned. Maybe Giroux eclipses him, but Crosby's as close to a generational talent as there is in the NHL right now.

I love Giroux's game but as of right now, Crosby is better and Malkin as well. He needs to win some hardware before he gets into their class.

Ive said it before, id rather have no season than a SMT welfare CBA. I feel the way MoAT and many others do regarding the capitalistic operation of the league. In all honesty, the league needs to contract and relocate a few frachises, period. I know the NHLPA will never blah blah blah and it, most likely, will never happen, but.....

Regarding the the bottom feeder markets and their fan bases( who for the true fans is a shame), in the immortal words of Jeff Ross: "Are they here, then (frank) 'em"

Just watchin hockey central and they were assessing the USA WJ team's D corp. Had some really good things to say about the Ghost. They were all raving about his play and saying that the Flyers have a good one..

how 'bout Jersey boy Johnny Gaudreau? Do you think he has a chance of playing in the NHL? It's been a lot of fun watching him in the last few games...he kind of looks like Briere.

I'd like to think so, but he's 5'6. Danny is 5'10, and he's considered small. Theoren Fleury was 5'6, but he's the exception. He'll probably get there, but I'm not sure he'll be able to handle the physical game.

They were speaking about the tournament as a whole. Not the D corps in the last game. They said he lost some momentum after he was suspended.
