That's correct.

It was actually positioned as a misunderstanding...

I'm not praising either side...but I do believe one side has more claim to establishing the definition than the other.
- Pen15

They already did that...... months ago. All changing it now does is server to derail the process.

But Bettman likes the players and respects them and wants to get the game back on the ice..... and you actually believe that.

In all fairness though, and I really hate taking sides here, but its the risk they take by being in this business. Nobody forced them in, they chose to join the league knowing the risks at the time. What I think is more important though in this part of the debate is that knowing the risks, the owners have shown absolutely no willing to control such risks by controlling their spending. They fought for a cap, cried poor, then found ways around that cap and spent beyond their means.

At to that the fact the players put their bodies on the line game in, game out and its unfair to say the owners take all the risks here. Maybe financially, but ask all the players suffering brain damage from concussions (concussions are the biggest, but by no means only example) and ask their families if they risked anything at all.

No amount of money can replace permanent physical damage, especially to the head.

Just thought Id add my two cents.

You can't put all the owners into one basket (nor the players). Many of these issues pit player against player and owner against owner. Crosby n' Burkle and Giroux n' Snider will still be holding hands when this is all over.

Pensions. They haven't got close enough on this issue yet. The optimist in me says the deadline is still a week away so they will posture until that time comes. The pessimist says maybe its an issue they'll both die on. I'm mostly optimistic though.
- The Law

My fear is that Fehr sees the pensions issue as much more important than the actual players do.

A point I would agree with Fehr on, by the way.

So if NHLPA feels they deserve better pensions, but NHL feels they can't assume unfunded liabilities (both reasonable positions, imho), I don't know how they bridge that gap in 8 days.

A season does seem inevitable, though. Just a gut feeling.

Fans are now openly hoping for a cancelled season.

Think about that for a moment.

- Atomic Wedgie

I certainly am...

I want these 2 parties to sit down and realize just how much money they have pissed away......... How much they have hurt the game.... How many fans they have pissed off, and pushed away..... And, how mant years they just set the game of hockey back in the USA.

I certanly hope they don't play.

This hhr sneaky switch is the beginning of the end

Bettmen is a joke

- The_Vark

I know eh? Where the hell is the logic in that? By using sneaky and underhanded methods to get this deal done, you can guarantee there will be another strike when the new CBA expires.
They need to be honest and open in trying to satisfy, within the best of their abilities, each other's needs.
Bunch of Jackasses.

Right. I just used strike and lockout interchangeably in that post. I suppose I mean "Stoppage"

I understood - I was agreeing with you.

We are now at a point where many "fans" aren't pro-owner or pro-player - they are openly hoping the season gets cancelled, out of spite.

That's not rational thought. But it is how many fans feel.

Including me.

- Atomic Wedgie

Well then you understood my point precisely.

I don't hope the season get canceled though, I'm ready for NHL hockey!

There no doubt will more work stoppages in the future.... The second this new cba expires, lockout.

They havent addressed the areas of concern.

Now some people are saying Nilsson might be the hottest player in the world, and you won't see me denying it. I've been pumping this guys tires since 2011. Is there a more complete player in the world of hockey than Nilsson right now? I doubt it, this kid is a BEAST. He's singlehandedly led his team to victory.
