They don't play the game on paper. If they did, Canada would have at LEAST one Stanley Cup win since 1993.

I will stick up for Don (a little) by saying this:

He's never (iirc) said "no foreigners in the CHL"

What he has said is that it needs to be a two-way street.

US players are welcome, because Canadian kids are welcome to play in the US.

But if a Canadian kid can't play for Metallurg Magnitogorsk Juniors or Traktor Chelyabinsk Juniors, why are we welcoming Russian kids?

- Atomic Wedgie

They can if they wished. Just like any Euro player can play in any league they want in Europe. There are Slovaks in Sweden, Czechs in Russia and so on.

Does anyone miss the glory years of Canadian baseball (92-94)where the best baseball nation in the world was Canada because the Toronto Blue Jays (Toronto is in Ontario, which is a province in Canada) won the world series 2 years in a row, then the following year when the Expos were a country mile ahead of everyone before the strike ended the season?

I think Matthew Berry was busy organizing a summit to investigate the American system of developing baseball players. Apparently it worked because an American team has won every World Series since.

As reported by Larry Brooks, NHLPA conducted audit, found league underreported HRR (ie. hid money). Matter pending before arbitrator.

Can they, though?

I must confess (again!) that I don't follow any junior hockey, so I really have no idea.

But at least from watching the Coach's Corner segments, Don seems pretty convinced that "good Canadian boys" can't go play for Metallurg Magnitogorsk Juniors.

Maybe it's technically allowed, but barriers are put up?

Show me one "good Canadian boy" who WANTS to play for Metallurg Magnitogorsk and I'll show you a player who can't crack into the CHL.

I don't really know. I must confess I don't follow any junior hockey, so I really have no idea.

But at least from watching Coach's Corner segments, I'm very scared that the only two spaces taken up by non-North American players (Mexico is safe have no fear) for each CHL team is the reason why Canadians are losing all these WJC games. That and the fact that small town tough Canadians with heart, grit, love, ferocity, balls and belches are being replaced by pussies from big cities like Terrebonne, Ste-Agathe, New Market and Dorchester.

this is for Dozzer

“Basically, they changed the definition, where there would be no accountability in terms of HRR accounting,” Phillips told the Ottawa Sun Friday. “So they could basically give us whatever number they wanted to.

“It’s great that we’re at 50-50 now, but 50-50 of what? That’s just ridiculous. We’re trying to get a deal done, and negotiate in good faith and they pull garbage like that. That’s not going to get anything done.”

Sure. As I suspected, nothing.

FYI I haven't blamed the owner entirely for this. But you keep the excuses coming.

- burn
