yeah, i bet if the AHL had actual tv deals alot of people would watch and follow
- Dozzer

Certainly. Watching the old re-runs, I am still into the games, and can't believe he missed that shot, etc...

So assuming that you are okay with paying $200 for a Leaf ticket....... you'd be okay with moving all the Marlies up to the big club, having them wear Leaf Jerseys, and pay $200 for a ticket? Have them play the Hamilton Bull Dogs wearing hab jerseys?

Is that what your saying?

- faceto27

Isn't this what has been more or less happening for the past 7yrs in Toronto?

Montreal is a Habs city not a hockey city see EE.
Toronto is Leafs town not Marliesville
Ottawa is Leafs town unless you're under 30.

The ticket sales would be able to drop drastically, if the owner throw the players out and get new ones. They will play for normal wages..

When I lived there I noticed it went something like 40% Leafs fans, 30% Habs (Gatineau providing a major venue) and 30% Sens, the Sens will overtake the Leafs and Habs soon since the younger fans are raised as Sens fans, but the old guard are still around

actually yes. i wouldnt mind. because games would be on tv, and i would follow more closely than i do the marlies..

the only reason the AHL doesnt attract a stronger following is the lack of a major tv deal. if it was on tv.. more people would watch it.. if they brought them all up.. damn right people would watch. its still very very good hockey.

i think you would be surprised at just how much the marketing work done by the NHL makes a difference.

That's actually exactly what happens. It's the very concept of drafting / developing players.

Seriously believe this?
- robin_steele264

Do you seriously believe what you are selling.
If it's hockey people want...than no one would care about the lockout and the JR hockey and AHL teams would be sold out all the time.
I agree with you that the logo on the front of the jersey plays a big part in selling tickets to the region...of course the Leafs are a huge Brand.
But if the NHL folded along with the Leafs.....and the NHL'ers signed on with AHL teams and were put into former NHL arena's, you dont think it wouldn't sell out?
Ex:
Move the Marlies as they are right now to the ACC as their permanent home. Yes in Toronto, the ACC might be 60% filled on average for the home games to see the current Marlies.
Now move the Marlies into the ACC with Crosby, Kessel, Eberle and so on so forth (just for poops and giggles) as their permanent AHL home...the place would be sold out all the time.
Hockey is not what saved hockey in Pittsburgh, it was Crosby.
Hockey is not what made hockey popular in L.A and California.....it was the Great one.

Dozzer, I subscribe to Leafs TV therefore I watch alot of Marlies games. They are at about 50% the talent level of the NHL. I watch them with a grain of salt.

That would be awesome... if we replaced all the teams with the AHL players... The leafs would be in first place... I wouldnt miss Kessel and Dion for 1 second.

Last time the Bulldogs played at the Bell Center, over 19 000 tickets were sold.

however.. you bring the marlies to the ACC and call them the leafs and have them wear leafs jerseys and do the same with Hamilton with Montreal jerseys.. and call it the leafs vs the habs.....

the ACC would be packed.

Yes, one time. You said even the 30 goal scoring Kuli doesn't make a difference for the Leafs. It's impossible to quantify how many less games a team would win without one player. Stating that it doesn't matter whether a team has a 2-way 30 goal scorer or not is a ridiculous comment.
- 1979AD

No I said, even the one time 30 goal scorer Kulimen didn't have an affect on the overall results of the leafs.
That's all.
So for now, if the leafs trade or keep Kuli...doesn't matter to me.

You're points are all derived from the idea that this would happen if the NHL was locked out still while this happened and not if the NHL didn't exist anymore. Big difference.
