They players will make out like bandits, they do every time.

But they are spoiled brats and totally out of touch.

They hate Bettman... Im sure most of them dont even know their pay has gone up 10 fold since he took the job.

Hockey still exists if every owner vanishes too.

And Yes, they ARE the product.

- faceto27

No they arent.

The game of hockey is the product.

The players are the fuel for the engine... the arent the product.

Do you cheer for the player or the team?

Are you a Kessel fan or a Leafs fan?

Could the owners not get new players. Still the higest paid league in the world by far.. I am sure they could get the rest of the best players to come.

They have advised, both of them, only one took flak
- burn

no Burn Fehr didnt advise.. you are wrong on that.

A recent “negotiating” session provides a perfect example of how Fehr operates. The league and the NHLPA negotiators agree to meet at 10 a.m. one day. Everyone shows up at the appointed hour, with the exception of Donald Fehr, who finally walks into the room at 11:15 and apologizes for being late. At exactly 12 noon, he announces he has a lunch meeting with someone in uptown Manhattan and leaves the room.

Porn still exists without women. Would you enjoy it as much if it was just men?

I think the real kule is the 15-18 goal strong d, fairly physical ( no fighting ) than the others, though Itd be nice if he's the 30 goal guy.

If the Leafs roster was wiped out tomorrow, would the Leafs no longer exist?

Okay, lets look at it this way.

McDonalds.......... Is McDonalds the product or is the Big Mac the product?

The Big Mac........ the main substance of the Big Mac is the beef (lol)

The employee makes the Big Mac.

The hockey player is the beef, hockey is the Big Mac.

The Player is the product to the game. You can not have hockey without the player.

No hockey is the result of the players. You are not selling hockey to hockey fans, you are selling players to hockey fans.
You put a couple of average joes in NHL jerseys and have them play a game...sure its a "hockey game" but its not an NHL caliber hockey game.

Many many people are fans of players and cheer for the team the player on solely for the player.

You think the NHL spent the past 5 years promoting hockey? No they spent it promoting Sid Crosby.
I agree the players are the cattle, and have overstepped their boundaries on occasion, but dont kid yourself...they're the product.

Depends which Kuli, the defensively strong fairly physical 15 goal 40 points guy, the 30 goal defensively good slightly physical guy, or the 7 goal looking lost half the time and flubbing golden chances guy.
- AdamFrench

Doesn't matter. Which ever Kuli showed up, it never affected the end results for the leafs.

Yes, you can get other players. But would you pay top dollar to watch the other players....... No, you wouldn't.

You can always go watch the AHL, a sub par game compared to the NHL.

You don't pay top dollars to watch a NHL team, you pay top dollars to watch top end talent

Hamburgers again......... you will pay about 10 bucks for a top end burger, but you wouldn't pay 10 bucks for a Big Mac

The players are not the product.

They are replaceable, and have a finite lifespan.

The game of hockey, the NHL, the 30 teams who employ players, is the product.

I want to watch the Edmonton Oilers play... not a specific player or players.

So, the players are expendable. The should be more humble then.. If I talked to the owner of the company I work for this way, I am out of work..
