Galchenyuk will be a better player. No doubt about it.

If you go back to the draft would you draft Galchenyuk 1st? I dont think murray would have went 2nd.
- RyanZabizewski

what exactly have you seen from murray to make you drop him?

The is a reason richard is called boner, it show's when he talks about other teams players. Subban is good but nearly as good as richard thinks. Like someone said earlier he write shyt like this for hits. He is a self confessed troll and with no NHL hockey to talk about he attracts a similar element.
- longbottom

Subban's marketing value is what makes him worth acquiring, but not for the Oilers or any Canadian team. He is worth a lot more to a market like Chicago, Anahiem, LA, Florida, Detroit, SJ, Colorado, STL, Clb, NYI. He can bring in some great marketing dollars. His shirt would be flying off the shelves.

Nope I might have drafted him second only because "D" drafted that high tend not to live up to the hype. But the 1st pick would definitely be used to draft Yakupov. Everybody can talk as much trash about Yakupov but only time will tell how this will play out. I would rather be patient than hit the panic button before he plays his first NHL game.

Yakapov is a baby Ovechkin and Galchenyuk is a baby Malkin. Both will be very good.

Richard Cloutier: Would You Trade Nail Yakupov?
- Maxbone

I might trade Yaks at the right time for the right piece (right now that "right piece" is Mark Messier, or as close to him as exists, which I guess is Ryan Getzlaf... for some reason that makes me sad), but I would argue against trading him right now for the following reasons:

1)It seems faithless to take a player #1 overall and trade him before he ever gets to play for your team. What are you telling future draft picks? What are you telling your fans who just bought Yaks jerseys? Bad PR move.

2)His value is not very high right now. Buy low, sell high. Well, buying low is no longer an option, so let's at least try to get a good return. This is supposed to be Bure 2.0... wouldn't you think you could have swapped Bure straight up for a large #2C? Adding Gagner seems overpayment.

3)As soon as you mention Gagner in a trade scenario my lawn gets cluttered with damn punk kids hating on Gagner. Get off my lawn! *shakes fist* And pull up your pants!

4)Lots of scouts got paid lots of money, and 80% of them agreed that Yaks was the obvious choice. Concensus #1 overalls don't fail to pan out very often...

5)Depth-for-quality moves should IMO be made to push your team up from being a playoff team to being a Cup contender. We are not yet a playoff team (though we really should be by next year). Plus, waiting a year means we are less likely to accidentally trade off the guy who surprises everyone to become the best player out of our prospect group. The cream will rise to the top, but it needs time to do so.

Actually, I hope for Yaks to be a better all-around player than Ovechkin but I don't expect him to be the same calibre of goal-scorer that OV should be.

Also, I'd totally rather have Malkin than Ovechkin, so I want to disagree extra hard because having lost out on baby Malkin would make me sad.

Yes in my opinion Kris letang is a top dman in the NHL. I think he is better than subban who is metioned on here a lot. With him and Schultz you have two top scoring dman. If I'm trading yaks, it would be for someone like letang. I just feel it's a Trade that helps both teams out. Richard where do you think letang ranks when it comes to defenseman?
- jeb064

I don't think that trade helps both sides.

One side gives up a Dman you claim is replacable with in their own system to get a players that they "need".

One side gives up one of 3 players. Two of which are 1st round picks, the other was a Top 15 scorer last year and is tears up the AHL right now. One of those 1st's is the player the team is building around. None of these players are easily replaceable in the system.

So, to repeat, the Pens can make the trade because of depth in the position, while the Oilers lose depth.

The thing is Letang is a top of the league d-man, he is the best defenceman we have here in the burgh, and he was a candidate for the norris trophy before he got injured. If having 42 pts in 51 games as a defenceman while being better defensively than Erik Karlsson (who is considered a top of the league defenceman) than I don't know what is. And a potential swap of Letang for one of the kids would make sense but not right now, We would need to find a top pairing defenceman from our abundance of high end defensive prospects.
- matt1396

Here is the thing. Eberle was top 15 in scoring and was nominated for a league award.

Hall is the teams centerpiece. Potential future captain and the team's only elite LW.

Those guys also have chemistry and are friends. The teams will not trade one of them.

The Oilers are praised on their organizational depth...due to the the D prospects. The team is deep in RWers...but not C or LW.

The trade is good for Pens...not as much for the Oil. I would do Yak for Letang+ later round pick (3rd?)...that will be my best offer...and I am not one to just wanna trade off Yak.

I think the point he was making was if Gal. went 1st, Yaks would still have been available.
