You don't get it. You don't understand. I understand. You don't. It's quite simple. I am here, getting it. You are there, not getting it. So don't kid yourself. If there is anyone who gets it, it's me. If there is anyone who doesn't get it, it's everyone not being me. - MJLjr

If you think this changes the "tone" of NHL labor relations, well that and 4.00 will get you a cup of coffee at fourbucks. If the owners feel there is something worth fighting for at the end of the next CBA, they will. I have no idea what the PA supporters are thinking with this. Bob Goodenow and the players sacrificed a whole season in 2004. Did that stop this from happening this time around?
- Aetherial
Im not in support of either side, but to sit here and act almighty on the basis that it was Goodenow who cancelled a season because he wanted a salary cap and wouldnt settle for anything less is absurd. If you had any credibility, big if, it just travelled from my penis, to the toilet, through some pipes and into a pool of urine and feces. There it sits, with the rest of the human waste. |

This new CBA is the perfect thing for a young Leafs team. Just like the last CBA was a complete disaster for a veteran Leafs team...
With the new CBA, elite teams being cap squeezed, people need to rethink their expectations for the coming seasons. |

Yes, but the Leafs coaching and management do a traditionally poor job of developing players... |

They have, no doubt about it, but they also dont traditionally pick in the lottery range either. The farm system and prospect pool is good and deep, though void of elite potential. It appears the team has finally accepted what it needs to do and is finally on the right track.
Cap and flexibility wise, they be one of the teams in a good position. |

Maybe they'll clean out the prospect cupboard when they trade for Lu... |

They wont need to
Gillis has to get rid of lu....no team will hand over anything of value especially prospect wise. |

unless Vancouver is able to buy out Lu's contract, and then he can go wherever he wants. |

"The players' association was still reviewing the document, which was several hundred pages in length, on Friday night and planned to speak to the NHL by telephone on Saturday, and then get together with the league on Sunday."
If it's several hundred pages long, does that make it good or bad for productivity? |

No, the cancelled season can be chalked up to Goodenow refusing to accept a salary cap for so long though. |

Well if Bettman & Fehr are forced by their own parties to go against what they believe & sign an agreement they don't want......... GOOD than mabie both f*ckin idiots will eventually resign. Would be the best thing to happen to the NHL, both those bozos gone. |

No less than the Bettman/Owners refusing to accept a CBA without one. Its a two way street. |

Perfect scenario for anyone interested in him. Give up no assets, sign him to the same or lower salary with far less than the 10 years or so of term left on his current contract. Which is why teams wont give the Canucks much for him, because they wont need to nor should they. Its a bad contract. |

How so?
His contract is still bad, but now teams have 10 million less of a budget. Why is his 10 year contract more appealing now, than it was before? Im not saying you're wrong, im just trying to understand why you think this. |

Hasn't anyone else noticed this?
In addition, year-to-year salary variability will be limited (up or down) to no more than 10 percent of the value of the first year of a multiyear contract.
http://espn.go.com/blog/n...s-of-nhls-dec-27-proposal
that is significantly different than year to year variance. The league hasn't upped their offer of 5% to 10% as everyone seems to think. That's a much tighter restriction than 5% year to year. |
