Sure, me too...
But u take away all the best players and the NHL becomes as relevant as professional lacrosse
Undervaluing what the players bring to the table is a point I just don't get
They players are the most important aspect of the game,
And the NHL knows it...
That's why they market Crosby & Miller & Ovechkin, etc - jdfitz77
First of all, even with 100% replacements, people will cheer for their team, not the Amur Tigers.
The real big point you are missing is that going forward, the NEXT generation of the world's best players will come to the NHL because they will still be offering the most money and best working conditions by far.
Never lose sight in all the players stupidity of the most stupid part of all... the players are rejecting the best, most lucrative working conditions for hockey players.

I dont think the other poster is argueing against this, but rather suggesting sacrificing the rest of the season does nothing to fix the problem. Especially when a decision on Bryz is looming. - systemtool
I'm just being selfish about not caring about a lost season as I feel it benefits the Flyers...It's always better to be playing hockey... |

If they buyout Bryz, you understand Michael Frickin Leighton will be the starting goalie right?
Bryz will not be bought out. In fact, Bryz will have a solid career in Philly. You can bank on that.
As far as a buyout goes, Mr. Pronger says hi
But this is all silly because there won't be a buyout..... - Giroux_Is_God
You're insane...They can still buy him out and resign him...That contract is complete sh*t and everyone knows it... |

Doubt they do, how much money left on his deal? - Symba007
$40 million over the next 6 years. Last two years only worth a couple of million. With a 60 million cap coming, his contract is waaaaaaaaaaaay too much for what he brings. |

Short term thinking.
Yes the players lose money they won't recuperate, but the owners play this game each and every CBA. You need to draw the line in the sand, otherwise eventually the owners will be taking it all. |

There is likely going to be a rule that prohibits that.

Who says they'll automatically resign him? That's a hell of a gamble, seeing what we have between the pipes behind him. |

Shenn is a nice #3 with #2 potential...He was dying a slow and painful death in Toronto... - Flyfreaky
If used right Schenn is a physical, shot blocker who can make that first pass out of his end.....he fell out of favor in TO. He was great in his rookie year and kinda slipped after that.....as a coach, Ron Wilson can be brutal on young players confidence and he really had a burr up his a$$ with Schenn....he lost confidence and struggled...
Schenn can be a number 2 with a offensive #1 .....which I think the Flyers need ..... |

5.6M for a starting Goalie who is playing at the top of his game isn't too much. It's the most important position on the ice. - MJL

What difference does it make what team im a fan of? Stop being defensive and immature. The only thing amusing is your deflection of hockey talk to take a personal jab for no good reason. Speaks volumes. - systemtool
Not defensive at all....you just don't watch a lot of Flyer games....as far as landing a number one D, you are right....tough to do....hence the offer sheet to Shea Weber.
As far as tending....I would argue the Leafs haven't had a #1 since Joseph....Bryzgalov struggled at times for sure but also was the best player in the entire league in March....for the flyers to compete they have to have that type of play more often....and seriously you got all that from a one line comment?

They were just renting that hill. It cost the NHL somewhere between 210M and 420M of revenue lost to rent that hill.

I disagree completely. He was very up and down and struggled. But he also had periods where he was very good. And he was very good in the last playoff Series. Bryzgalov has the ability to be a very good Goaltender. He is the Flyers starting Goalie. And I doubt you'll see any amnesty buyout used on him. - MJL
I'm with you on this one. If you look at Bryz's best seasons, he started 67-72 games. The problem last year was that, as usual, the Flyers mishandled their goaltending. IF you are going to spend $51million on your top goalie, you need to play him in a way that makes him comfortable. Instead of finding a way to play Bobrovsky 25 or so games, he should have been traded as soon as Bryz was signed, and replaced with a veteran backup who would have been fine with 10-12 starts.
Let Bryz be Bryz. The more he plays, the better he plays. He recently got consistent playing time in the K, and whatya know, his play improved tremendously.
The Flyers would be much better off using the amnesty clause to get Pronger off the books and let just Bryzgalov play. Come on, do you really want to see Michael Leighton as your number one???

Their last number one was Belfour, before the 2004 lockout. Nothing to argue.
And again, being defensive and childish because the truth about the Flyers goaltending woes was discussed. I never said Bryz was no good. I was agreeing they shouldnt buy him out, while disagreeing the Flyers are better off losing the rest of the season as opposed to playing it. Please dont cry. |

The owners offered 50%. The players accepted it already (well, not really, but they *said* they did).
So, what is your point here?
YOU are losing sight of the big picture. Despite the players crying about the owners doing this to them, their salaries have still skyrocketed.
Owners profits and franchise values have not quite kept pace.
THAT is the bottom line. |

How about PROFIT?
Who lost more in Profit (salary)?
Which side is being more stupid?
Pretty tough to debate the point so thankfully, you will chicken out yet again anyway |

The CBA crap will go down to the wire and once again the owners are their own worst enemy. It's apparent to me that the owners are desperate for a season and will continue to improve their offer right up to the last minute (sometime around 1/10).
My best guess is the following:
A 10 year CBA, even the players know this is a necessity to keep the fanbase happy
A make whole provision of $325 million
A 50/50 split with a cap limit of 70.2 this season 61-62 million next season, and the legitimate number for the next 8.
Contract limits of 7 years for free agents and 8 years for your own players
Year to year contract variance of 20%
One amnesty buyout that does not count against the cap OR the players share.
What ticks me off is that if the NHL had proposed this deal on October 1st and made it clear that if the deal was not agreed to by October 15th, the entire season would be cancelled, we would have had an agreement on the 15th and the season would have started on 11/01.
It's a damned shame that this league is run by morons!!
