Eklund: Owners Directed Gary to End This, The Players Must Do the Same with Fehr.
- Eklund

If this truly was leaked to the media by the owners, it's purely for PR. They want to look like the ones extending the olive branch here. That's pretty much it. They've put Fehr and the players on the hot seat and unless Fehr either signs off on it or offers up a reasonable counter proposal, he and the players will look like the real bad guys here in the perception of the public and the hockey starved NHL fans especially.

Not they already don't...

I seriously hope that Fehr doesn't find a way to screw this up.

Wow....that's a little harsh.....yes they are not labor guys but they all have agents and reps that can spell out the offers....Fehr was hired, as someone has said long before me, to save the players from being obliterated in this deal....he has succeeded...this now is where Fehr will really earn his $.....now he has too
close the deal!!!
Fehr is a labor lawyer....he is not paid for the adjulation of the fans or the owners....he knows that regardless of the timing they are close to the best possible deal.....he will use the next 10 days to squeeze a little more out of the owners and finish the job.

Not that I have the greatest understanding of the proposed CBA's to date but I would not be happy if I threw away as much money as the players have to get to this point. Especially the difference from the last proposal.

Pretty much everyone I have heard from agrees the players would of been best served by taking the last deal over waiting for this one.

That shows massive incompetance on the NHLPA's part. Massive.

I do not believe this but it has been mentioned Fehr has no intention of accepting any NHL proposals. That this is all to server his ego and see how much he can alter a sport in it's entirety. If we lose the season I think it safe to say that is probably true.

Personaly if the NHLPA has problems with the current CBA offers they SHOULD of been the one with the latest proposal. As far as I have heard the NHLPA has yet to draft an even remotly complete CBA proposal outlining what it is they actualy want... at all. That is flat out retarded to me. What are there lawyers being paid t do, stall? They have not expressed what is important to them or to what extent.

While the owners are using fair market value as thier guideline and looking to the NBA and other North American sports for pressident the players are seriously saying stupid stuff like. "If it isn't broke, why fix it". "The old CBA worked fine why can't we just play under that". Apparently 70 000 documents stating 12 teams are losing money is the best CBA ever.

The players also claim that they would of played with the old CBA while fairly bargining a new is disgusting rediculas. The players have stalled negotiations from the very start and it has been there primary tatic to be late or difficult during the proceeding as much as possible... If this does go to court I have no idea how a Judge could not find the lockout legal.

They did go from 211 make whole to 300 mill.......and the more liberal any part of a system would filter down to the rest of the payers in some instances.....I do get your point though....only 90 in force contracts were for 5 or more years...yet it was still a big issue....I think the "who" pays for the buy out clause may be the biggest hurdle left....
- landros 2

They have been at $300M for awhile now so it would appear that they aren't fighting over money with the exception of the buyouts.

Again, that will effect 30 players at most as I think they can only buy out one contract per team. Does that really make sense for 95% of the union? If I was a player I'm not sure I would risk more money on something that will never effect me but I guess their principles are more important than their money.

Yes, that is good to hear, either we get NHL hockey or we don't. It's good because we don't have to hear about Bettman and Fehr's hate of each other.

I can't say much, I made her a promise but I can say this, half of you would be jerking off to her pics if you saw them. You'd be surprised what you can find on HB these days.
