I have a gut feeling most, if not all, teams will wait to see if they can force Gillis into desperation and buying him out. - systemtool
I hope he and Burke have everything in place and pull the trigger right away when it's game time... |

How about PROFIT?
Who lost more in Profit (salary)?
Which side is being more stupid?
Pretty tough to debate the point so thankfully, you will chicken out yet again anyway - Aetherial
Not sure you will ever be understood. You've done well but some just can't see your logic. I do, some don't.

Wow....that's a little harsh.....yes they are not labor guys but they all have agents and reps that can spell out the offers....Fehr was hired, as someone has said long before me, to save the players from being obliterated in this deal....he has succeeded...this now is where Fehr will really earn his $.....now he has too
close the deal!!!
Fehr is a labor lawyer....he is not paid for the adjulation of the fans or the owners....he knows that regardless of the timing they are close to the best possible deal.....he will use the next 10 days to squeeze a little more out of the owners and finish the job. - landros 2
That is the weird thing, he isn't squeezing money from the owners, its about variance and term length which will effect about 50 very high paid players. So 700 or so guys gave up at least one more pay cheque to help the highest paid players. Seems a bit odd to me. |

If you review many past readings you will see the owners have been constantly picking up support and momentum as each day goes by. They both have blown it but I believe it is and has been up to the players as it seems they are the ones not wanting to negotiate |

They did go from 211 make whole to 300 mill.......and the more liberal any part of a system would filter down to the rest of the payers in some instances.....I do get your point though....only 90 in force contracts were for 5 or more years...yet it was still a big issue....I think the "who" pays for the buy out clause may be the biggest hurdle left.... |

"The players' association was still reviewing the document, which was several hundred pages in length, on Friday night and planned to speak to the NHL by telephone on Saturday, and then get together with the league on Sunday."
If it's several hundred pages long, does that make it good or bad for productivity? - nayefj
Well, what was reported that this was basically a CBA length document. IMHO, it sounded like the NHL is saying here is that official offer we wanted you to give us all along and if there is no major tweaks or major changes to it we will accept it.
In my opinion again, the players will try to go for major tweak. The players know they have the owners by the "balls" because of the last offer. I do think the end is coming and there will be a season but I do see a couple more bumps before we get there.
As for productivity, this is a good thing. It tells PA what the NHL wants and see what the NHL is going to die for. Reading some of the provisions of what was provided to me on ESPN and other sites it seems the NHL is NOT going to budge on the CBA length and to me the Players could care less about the time of CBA. So when it comes to it I think we will end up with a 10 year CBA and the out at 8. The players know that they benefit from the CBA length of 10 years |

Are you sure you know how to read? Let's say a contract has a value of 5 million the first year, this means that on any year it cannot go up or down more then 500k. The only difference it is not based on the previous year, it is based on the first year. 5000 -> 4500 -> 4000, not 5000 -> 4500 -> 4050. - Euler007
ahhhh, you're right, I misunderstood that |

I can't wait until the next lockout. Or maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be a strike next time....that would be cool. |

Um just looking at twitter feeds and found this
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
I'm told rising NHL media star @aaronward_nhl is also headed to NYC this weekend. Another excellent source of CBA news
Is there something happening that we do not know about... I mean we generally do not hear about meetings on the weekend nor do journalists cover it if its just negotiations. |

Expect NHL CBA talks to resume late Sunday or Monday in New York. NHL offer clarification will happen again in the morning Sunday. |
