unless Vancouver is able to buy out Lu's contract, and then he can go wherever he wants. - acresd
When the lockout ends, either in 2 weeks or August of 2013, I'm worried Burke may over pay for Luongo. That meaning an A list young player like Fratten or Gardiner is a BIG NO NO, same goes for a 1st or 2nd pick for the 2013 draft. |

How so?
His contract is still bad, but now teams have 10 million less of a budget. Why is his 10 year contract more appealing now, than it was before? Im not saying you're wrong, im just trying to understand why you think this. - systemtool
I agree with you. Whatever value Gillis had in his head for LU, he better seriously re-think this cause if the cap lowers, he's going to have really lower his asking price. |

Burke wont do that. No chance. He learned from his mistake and his been gearing for the future for a few years now since the Kessel blunder. |

He also has his own team to worry about, and getting them under the cap come next season. As it is, they have less than 5 million to spend to bring their roster from 13 to 23 or 22. Thats 9-10 players. Lou has to go. |

Hasn't anyone else noticed this?
In addition, year-to-year salary variability will be limited (up or down) to no more than 10 percent of the value of the first year of a multiyear contract.
http://espn.go.com/blog/n...s-of-nhls-dec-27-proposal
that is significantly different than year to year variance. The league hasn't upped their offer of 5% to 10% as everyone seems to think. That's a much tighter restriction than 5% year to year. - prock
Are you sure you know how to read? Let's say a contract has a value of 5 million the first year, this means that on any year it cannot go up or down more then 500k. The only difference it is not based on the previous year, it is based on the first year. 5000 -> 4500 -> 4000, not 5000 -> 4500 -> 4050. |

Im not in support of either side, but to sit here and act almighty on the basis that it was Goodenow who cancelled a season because he wanted a salary cap and wouldnt settle for anything less is absurd. If you had any credibility, big if, it just travelled from my penis, to the toilet, through some pipes and into a pool of urine and feces. There it sits, with the rest of the human waste. - systemtool

How are they going to sign Weber? He is signed to a 14 year deal in Nashville. They only way to get Weber is to trade for him. |

I would be surprised if that happened, disappointed, but surprised. After almost a year off, Luongo's value has not increased.

If the lockout ends I really think the Canucks will want to unload him quickly and pretty cheap before the crazy sh*t starts to build up again... |

Lets be realistic, the players are going to reject this proposal and try to milk ever single last penny they possibly can get out of this. Even if they have already lost WAY more than money by waiting than they would have if they just signed a reasonable deal in the first place. There has been no logic from the players side so far so I doubt you will see it now. - themizer
This.
Every time a player speaks to the media they show they are completley uneducated and have no clue to the actual mechanics of simple math, business, or what is fair market value.
They will throw this proposal away with both hands and congratulate each other on how smart they are and how great Ferh is while losing more money than they can ever gain back.
I do not see us playing hockey ths year. Not unless at the last possible moment Fehr submits to an owners last minute proposal which will only be slightly better than this one. I do not see the union or players even being smart enough to do that tho. The players are brainwashed, uneducated, and completly clueless as to realities of the situation.
Most fans realize what is going on and already completly despise the players. When this offer gets turned down in a completley disrespectful manner I am not sure how much damage will be done to everyone. Owners may lose it, fans hate will reach even newer hieghts and if we do lose the season this whole thing will get even that much worse.
North American Hockey is forever damaged by the Tactics the NHLPA have used during this CBA negotiations and if things continue as they are no one really knows what will end up happeneing.

No, the cancelled season can be chalked up to Goodenow refusing to accept a salary cap for so long though. - prock
Close.
December 9 - PA makes the first move in the negotiations proposing 24% salary rollback. No cap in proposal but they offer concessions on entry level contracts, qualifying offers and a luxury tax
December 14 - league makes it's first proposal, accepting rollback and demanding a cap
Jan 19 - Feb 9 - negotiations under way
Feb 9 - owners make final offer. Bettman says season dead if no agreement on paper by weekend
Feb 16 - Bettman cancels season.
That's almost the way you described it.

Wow....that's a little harsh.....yes they are not labor guys but they all have agents and reps that can spell out the offers....Fehr was hired, as someone has said long before me, to save the players from being obliterated in this deal....he has succeeded...this now is where Fehr will really earn his $.....now he has too
close the deal!!!
Fehr is a labor lawyer....he is not paid for the adjulation of the fans or the owners....he knows that regardless of the timing they are close to the best possible deal.....he will use the next 10 days to squeeze a little more out of the owners and finish the job. |

I have a gut feeling most, if not all, teams will wait to see if they can force Gillis into desperation and buying him out. |
