r the last 35 years but to say it's the "best league on the planet" is a bit nuts with what's going on presently and has been for the last dozen years or so. Best sport, yes. Best league, I'd say a definitive no freaking way. I'd be more inclined to say worst league on the planet. The NHL and it's players are a joke at this point.

In the current post Ek does not say they are meeting this week. He implies they are discussing the framework of the next round of meetings..Eklund is not the enemy so if people don't like what the guy says then dont come to this site..

As for the enemy..

Just when i think the NHLPA and NHL Owners can't look any dumber or more unprofessional we have a 2 week pause in negotiations at the most critical time..When the 2 season being cancelled is about to take place the choice is made to stop talking..

It never ceases to amaze me how dumb both sides are. They deserve each other.

Ya not sold on John Gibbons as Jay skipper. He had problems b4 dealing with Ted Lilly & Shea Hillenbrand. Will he be able to handle the personalities on this very talented team? Will he be able to keep everyone happy on this team? I fear it may be to big of a job for Gibby. Why would Alex A go out this winter & do such an AMAZING job brilliantly building this team without giving up any stars on the current team than not go after an A list manager?

This USE to be the best league in the world. But in such a short time, the NHL has fallen so hard, so fast that u can almost hear the sickening thud as the NHL hits the ground. Been a hockey fan for 37 years. Hockey will always be my fav sport no matter what but yes the NHL has become the worst league in the world.

To be fair, Helene Elliott is an idiot and is usually wrong about everything. I would take Ek's word over Elliott's any day. Not many journalists I would say that about.

Hockey is a great game! Correction to your above statement, it's the worst "run" league of the four major professional sports leagues in North America.

Hey Eck, just read that the PA is waiting for the league to respond on a date for negotiating. Just a heads up, no secret negotiations!! Here's what is happening, the League is playing chicken and daring the PA to disband! nothing will happen until after 1/2!! If i was the PA i would disband tomorrow and then once you do don't pull out see it through!! it is apparently clear the owners and Gary Bettman do not take the players seriously nor do they even consider them. the cattle comment is the only comment that made any sense throughout the lockout!

In fairness to Leaf fans, there's no one on this planet that thought the Leafs would finish as bad as they did for the Seguin year, not even Habs fans. Just because at the start of every season in your existence on this Earth you say Toronto is the worst team in the league doesn't give you the right to lay claim to an unexpected rock bottom season.

Kessel, to this point in the deal, is still more productive than Seguin. I'm sure that will change but my point is Toronto hasn't really lost the trade yet. Seguin isn't the reason Boston won the Cup and he hasn't produced more than Kessel in the two years since the trade. Kessel had a career year last year and he has absolutely no one to play with. Don't even Joffrey Lupul this conversation either, because he played on Kessel's line, not the other way around.

Had the Leafs finished where they were supposed to te Bruins would have drafted a nobody in the middle of the first round, but because they were horrific all of a sudden the Leafs got hosed. Think from Burke's prospective, when you are supposed to be better than 2nd worst in the league and you make a deal. The same "Deal" that would have been the offer sheet but you chose to make it a trade instead of looking like a scumbag.

People just love to hate the Leafs, that's the problem with the Kessel trade.
