You didn't answer my question. I asked since Giroux hasn't scored 35G yet is he not elite either?
You ask 100 people (not la or Buf fans) and I bet u Atleast 97 take Kopitar and the other 3 are mentally challenged kids. - FLYERSROCK!
Giroux one very good season last year wth only 28 goals and 65 helpers.
Season before that only 25 and 51.
Then a huge dropoff .
So are we saying that over 65 points is an elite player now ?
Giroux has done it 2 out of 4 . Pommers has done it 4 out of 7 . So Pommers is elite as well right with your thinking ?
Listen there are only 2 players that have PROVEN TO ME over an extended period that they are elite in this league and they play on the same team . Crosby and Malkin . Not even Oveckin. |

BUT HE DOESNT HAVE THE ASSISTS!!!!
This guy is seriously comparing Kopitar to Oates?
Okay? - BuffaloHardHat
The point went over your head. Using goal totals alone as an argument for elite? Weak. |

1) Habs won't make the playoffs unless Gomez, Kaberle, and Bourque play well throughout. There's a boatload of money tied in to those 3 for minimal production.
2) At the same time the pacriottey, desharnais, and cole must keep pace from last years production.
Chances of both of those things happening are very slim. I'd be happy with the habs just tanked again and got a shot at drafting Mackinnon. |

so what we learned here tonight is that the Bruins are not the favorites to win the NE division and the Sabres are tougher. Kopitar and Giroux aren't elite but Vanek and Pominville are. Adam Oates had a lousy career and John Scott is the best fighter in the league.
Got it crystal clear... |

Jason Pominville has similar stats to Kopitar (I just looked them up, very similar) in a tighter checking conference.
So just being in a tighter checking conference with similar production I guess Pommers is elite also.
I undrstand now. - BuffaloHardHat
Pominville????
Pominville has 187 points over the past three seasons, to Kopitar's 230. And Pominville plays for a team that is all about offense, no defense.
He's not in the same league as Kopitar. |

LA deserved that Cup win, and this comes from one of the biggest Canuck homers there is. They had the hardest road to the Cup and literally crushed the President's Cup winning Canucks, the St. Louis Blues (who most thought were better than the Canucks at that point) and Phoenix. Kopitar, Doughty ARE elite, no question, but it was Dustin Brown, yes, THAT Dustin Brown who LA was desperate to trade at the deadline who lead them to the Cup. Sometimes all it takes is to gel and get hot at the right time to take you to the promised land. Buffalo, on the other hand, has plenty of potentially good centers, some skilled wingers and a fair-to-average defense, but Miller's clearly on the decline, and in the East where the game is mostly about good/elite goaltending, that's going to cost them wins, especially against the teams on the rise like the Rangers, the Islanders, and even Washington.
Here's how I see the standings and playoff teams for East/West if a 48 game season is played with the rosters as they currently are:
West:
1. St. Louis
2. LA
3. Vancouver
4. Minnesota
5. Chicago
6. Detroit
7. San Jose
8. Edmonton
East:
1. NY Rangers
2. Boston
3. Florida
4. Pittsburg
5. Washington
6. Ottawa
7. NYI
8. Tampa Bay |

In your post you only mentioned goals. Even if you bring points, assists into the equation its still a lousy argument. Points don't account for Kopitar's superior hockey smarts, strength on the puck, two way play, etc. |

Don't get me wrong, I do too. Pominville is another reasonably well rounded player that can produce. But he's obviously nowhere near Kopitar's level. |

I know because you clearly are a guru on this matter.
Kopitar is not 'elite' !
I have already seen other posters feel the same way.
Also seen another poster that agreed with me on the Bruins and Rask not being able to 'carry the load' . Bruins are no lock by any means. But I guess thats why they play the game.
Or, seeing that you know it all , just tell me who is going to win the Cup because I will alert Terry Pegula to not even bother dressing his players this year for any game because hugefemale dog77 said so on Hockeybuzz.
You're a clown. - BuffaloHardHat
Kopitar is elite, actually. Phenomenal player all around. |

I never said Vanek and Pommers are . However , the criteria some of these posters set as guidelines to figure out who is or not pus Pommers in 'elite' category.
Just sayin. You cant have it one way excluding the other just tomake it work for you.
The Bruins with Rask are no lock. If Thomas was in net I would say we might be chasing them . I also like what Ottawa is building. And I do feel the Sabres are tougher with the additions of Gigensons / Ott / and Scott. Watch the youtube videos. John Scott is a man amongst boys in his fights. |
