He has 1 year to prove he can stay healthy, I am not counting on it. His knee is destroyed. He is playing in the KHL, had broken ribs earlier but he is back on the ice. He is not the same player, he is afraid of contact and doesn't have the same mobility as before.

such a shame. he is such a great player and makes a tremendous difference for the habs when he's in the lineup.

Smart player, amazing passer, great vision but playing on one leg in the NHL won't work, he will get killed and won't be very efficient on his zone. If there is a season this year, we'll get to see if he can still play at a high level....and stay healthy, which is doubtful.

even if he were to stay healthy next year, i doubt teams would take a substantial risk in signing him. i guess it will depend on what types of "incentive deals" are allowed under the next cba.

i would think he goes back to russia after the expiration of his current deal.

I was just thinking why wasnt DP the first name to be mentioned along with the word amnesty next to it haha.

I see your idea with that. But why would the Isles trade draft picks if they could just buy DP out anyway? Unless they wanted to trade DP plus picks and then buyout Yashin?

- Dedshark

Because they can't afford the boatload of cash it would take to buy him out.

Why don't the owners just agree with what ever terms on contract lengths with the union, and make a deal among themselves that no GM will sign for more than 5 years??
- hockeyhead

because that's collusion and a no-no

DP is going to retire due to injury... he couldn't last 2 games in Germany without hurting himself...

GUYS!! GUYS!!! Enough bickering. There is no use talking about hockey anymore seeing how the world will end on Friday.

We should all put our differences behind us and show our HB love to one another in these last two days on earth.

One more season for Gomez, Gionta and Markov
- Symba007

With the new CBA they'll be able to bring them back for at least 3-4 years...

I wouldn't trust him. And the NHL won't trust it's GM's and it's owners either to stand by that back door agreement.
- MJL

They've never worked before, so why bother even considering it.
