I should have wrote a team worth watching since 1993. Donald (frank)ing Fehr ruined baseball after that for many years. Is history repeating??? Those 3 outfielders were awesome! In Canada we know Hockey and Barfield, Moseby, Bell, Carter, and yes Kelly Gruber!

You know, we got spoiled for a number of years by exciting teams and exciting players. We were even lucky enough to sign up some arch-nemesis players and have them win championships with us (Morris, Winfield, Molitor, Stewart, Henderson).

It would be good to have a team worth cheering for in Toronto again.

my cousin actually found 3 people... THREE PEOPLE who were willing to bet him $500.00 each that the world was going to end Friday

on Saturday he expects to be 1500$ richer.

if he's wrong.. well.. he wont have to worry about paying up. lol

Your a pro-owner MJL fyi. Just as bad just saying the opposite stuff. Your always on here dude. The Gary Bettman to his Donald Fehr. No wonder we are still locked out.

No Ernie Whitt??
- Vukota

Of course Ernie Whitt. I could go on all day as the Jays of the late 80's and early 90's fielded some of the best in the sport at one time.

Lloyd Moseby, Jesse Barfield & George Bell one of the best outfields when they were in their prime and this is coming from a yankees fan
- Vukota

I'm not a baseball fan but this trade is so ballsy it got me interested, and here's my take on it.

It's a risky trade, straight-up. But the Jays figure their window is, what, now-5 years? given that they can't get the pennant without having to kill freaking Goliath (I don't have to explain that do I? Let's just say I'm happy there's a salary cap in the NHL), they've decided to get better for the next 5 years at the expense of the 5 years after that. I don't fault them for that. We can't all afford to pay everyone on our roster more than any other team could offer them, like that Goliath bumhole can, so we have to take chances. Will it work? *grunt/shrug/spread hands*. Is it their best shot at the pennant? I'll leave that for the real baseball fans to decide!

Steib!!! So many close calls with perfect games and no hitters I'm glad he finally got his. Do you remember the two out ground ball in the 9th that hit a rock and bounced over the 2nd baseman's head to lose that no hitter??

Under an Amnesty rule: can a team trade for a player and then buy them out?

(example: trade scraps for Dipietro and a few first round draft picks)

Does anyone know if the wealthier NBA teams did this? It seems like you wouldn't be allowed to, because this is like trading cash for draft picks.

- Jacob582

I was just thinking why wasnt DP the first name to be mentioned along with the word amnesty next to it haha.

I see your idea with that. But why would the Isles trade draft picks if they could just buy DP out anyway? Unless they wanted to trade DP plus picks and then buyout Yashin?

Uh, they never signed JVR
Finger is gone, as is Connelly Lombardi, Komisarek has maybe 1 more year? Not sure. There is nothing there that is cataclysmic and damaging the franchise going forward.

This is all just a money grab by the PA trying to avoid ever actually going to 50/50. It is BRILLIANT... they *say* they are going to 50/50 so everyone actually believes it even though it isn't true.

And to me $300M is a much more adequate number given the revenue discrepancies between the top and bottom teams. 4.5% is/was ridiculous given the NHL's reliance on gate receipts

What a surprise... 1 time buyout = more money in NHLPA pocket (not that this is a new idea on their part).

... but people will STILL argue they agreed to 50/50 and the PA and Fehr are whining about it, when in fact they have no intention of settling for 50/50.

See also, the PA's request for a 5 year CBA.

- Aetherial

and dont forget the guaranteed 67 cap ceiling before we have a real idea of what revenues will be next year! or the burying of players in the minors that doesnt count against the cap!

the PA and their never ending sacrifices and charity to end this lockout.
god bless fehr. hes had his eye on ending this lockout from day 1. always willing to negotiate in good faith.
what more should they do!!?? jeez.

Why don't the owners just agree with what ever terms on contract lengths with the union, and make a deal among themselves that no GM will sign for more than 5 years??

He was on Hockey Central @ Noon today... he ran down alot more issues than we have been told about where the NHL is giving the players, and what the players still want on top of the big 3 issues.

Hopefully they come to there senses in the next 2 weeks.

If not... Fehrget It....

- jimmc7722

Yes, Daly made allot of sense on that show. I heard Fehrs comments on there too. He seemed more like a snake oil salesman. I'm all for gutting this season and nuking the players union, once and for all. If they decertify and lose to the owners on their legal arguments, I hope they hammer them into submission, going forward. Sh!t like Lupul shooting his mouth off, on Twitter, about not getting a reservation at an ACC restaurant, show a total disconnect on the players part. Nothing but sniveling children. Nuclear options please! Maybe we should poll the fans on that idea.

collusion

they basically HAVE to get the rule in place, or fehr will sue them for collusion if they do it arbitrarily. hes done it before..and won

True but they are changing the rules so now all of the one way contracts that are dumped in the AHL will count against the cap. You have to provide a way for teams to become cap compliant without having to trade their star players. Bettman is on a mission to punish the profitable teams to save his poor decision on expansion location. The big teams are already providing them with money to help them compete. With these changes players will in the end make less because teams will no longer take chances with signing risky free agents.
- tk71

I'm not necessarily against the idea, I'm just saying that it will benefit the bigger teams more than the smaller ones. The only thing I am really against is GMs throwing big money at average players, then having the ability to drop the player from their cap half way through the deal. If you are stupid enough to sign Scott Gomez to a $7M per year deal, you should be stuck with it (unless you can get some chump to trade for him, oops).

Do teams get to do this one time only, or once a season? So long as they limit the number of times a team can do this, it should work OK.

That would be collusion which is very illegal and they would get so sued even I wouldn't find it funny anymore. Too bad cause it would totally solve the problem and I don't give a rat's ass what deal the players get anymore. They already have far, far, far, far more than they deserve.

Because the Ed Snider's of the world would just cheat on a back channel deal like that. After the Weber affair, do you trust him?

- thefullnelson

He has 1 year to prove he can stay healthy, I am not counting on it. His knee is destroyed. He is playing in the KHL, had broken ribs earlier but he is back on the ice. He is not the same player, he is afraid of contact and doesn't have the same mobility as before.

I wouldn't trust him. And the NHL won't trust it's GM's and it's owners either to stand by that back door agreement.
