If you have it, you don’t need it. If you need it, you don’t have it. If you have it, you need more of it. If you have more of it, you don’t need less of it. You need it to get it; and you certainly need it to get more of it. But if you don’t already have any of it to begin with, you can’t get any of it to get started, which means you really have no idea how to get it in the first place, do you? You can share it, sure; you can even stockpile it if you’d like; but you can’t fake it. Wanting it, needing it, wishing for it; the point is: if you’ve never had any of it, ever, people just seem to know.

wow. so it's not fair that they play in big cities with the biggest fanbases in the NHL? jesus.

Further, he throws Toronto in there... and they don't need a 1 time buyout. They were careful to not sign these bizarrely hopeless deals.

What a surprise... 1 time buyout = more money in NHLPA pocket (not that this is a new idea on their part).

... but people will STILL argue they agreed to 50/50 and the PA and Fehr are whining about it, when in fact they have no intention of settling for 50/50.

See also, the PA's request for a 5 year CBA.

WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!.............................er wait, is that sarcasm.....I've never been good with sarcasm.
- Cochise

it's definitely not sarcasm. it was promised by gary bettman before and during the last lockout. and if we know anything, it's that gary bettman never lies.

"I believe that our current economic system has been inflationary, not only with respect to our expenses, but with respect to ticket prices, as well. And I do believe there is a direct link.

With the right economic system we can take the pressure off of ticket prices, and I believe with the right economic system, many, if not most of our teams, will actually lower ticket prices."

They had that last year with the 57-43 split. Next.
- jmatchett

Too bad. It is over now. No more 57%. It has zero relevance except as a point from which players can make illogical, stupid, and disingenuous arguments.

Please find the words "Promise" and "forever" in Bettman's quotes.

That's a lot of questions but I'll answer as best as I can. First of all, Kudos to you for even knowing that there IS a difference!!

Miss USA is mostly about looks. There are three phases of competition all weighted equally - evenging gown, swimsuit and interview.

Miss America is more about the total package. There are five phases of competition - Talent at 35%, Interview at 25%, Evening Gown at 20%, Swimsuit at 15% and On Stage Question at 5%.

There are three things that really make the Miss Ameica system different...there is a talent portion, the interview is much more intense and, most imprtantly, it provides millions of dollars in scholarships not only to the winners, but runner ups, preliminary winners, etc. every year.

Neither system is necessarily "better" than the other. They are just different. There are girls that are successful only in one system, but there are many that crossover and are successful in both.

Hope this explains it

- RealityChecker

Thank you for clearing that up. You have done us a great service, if by nothing else than changing the subject. We need pics of these girls!

I was ready to argue my ass off here for a good 6 weeks or so but it takes a special kind of person to keep spewing that poop out.

I have to admit that I find the anger mostly directed at the players astounding.

- Canada Cup

I can see you siding with the PA. That's cool.

How can you possibly be astounded at the anger directed at the PA though? Have you eve READ any of the crap they have said. They have insulted pretty much every working class fan, repeatedly. Yet, you wonder why people are mad?

WTF?

What did he say?

The players are stupid and greedy? Did he relate the owners struggles to the plight of the common man?

That always gets me.

- robin_steele264

He was on Hockey Central @ Noon today... he ran down alot more issues than we have been told about where the NHL is giving the players, and what the players still want on top of the big 3 issues.

Hopefully they come to there senses in the next 2 weeks.

If not... Fehrget It....

It is a miracle of stupidity that any of us bother to even discuss this crap on the boards any more. Even I am sick of saying the same thing over and over and over.

Cancel the season, disband the union, cancel next year, bring in replacements, start a new league... WHATEVER! Someone sac up and do something.

This lockout used to be entertaining. Now it is boring.

Ek,

Your entire first point about the buyout of players and how small market teams would not like this concept is completely incorrect.

Please inform me how a small market team that doesn't earn the big-time revenue being earned by the Maple Leafs, Rangers, Flyers, etc. can complain about being able to buy out their own mistakes? These large market teams can send their players down to the minors (a la Wade Redden) and not have to worry about making enough money to compensate the player. Small market teams, such as the Islanders, would love to have the ability to buy out DiPietro so that they could use that additional $4.5 million per season to compensate another player who can actually contribute.

So, once again, please tell me how this favors the large market teams?

Yah, that is an awesome representation of this..

Does anyone really think anyone leading the NHLPA or NHL can see the damage being done vs "not losing" though?

I say we discuss more pressing topics...such as, was Evil Dead 2 the best movie ever made, or does it lose slightly to Dead Alive (the best Peter jackson movie ever made)?

kind of hit its apex 2 weeks ago with the b2b press conferences. (frank) that was priceless... that smug sack of piss Fehr basically saying "(frank) you" to just about everyone, Bettman convulsing with rage for 30 minutes, eyes popping out of his sockets...

Most small market teams can't afford to buyout a player and then spend money on another player to take his place while at the same time still paying the guy they just bought out. Larger market teams can easily spend the money to replace their mistakes while most small market teams can't
