It'll be interesting to see what happens. I hope, for Vancouver's sake, that he does stay with you guys. Hopefully he buys into the whole taking less for the team culture that you've got going on there. Look no further than Ehrhoff to see that greed can lead to failure.
I don't know what Edler's relationship is like with Salo or even Ohlund. Nor do I know whether or not Hedman and Edler have any sort of relationship. But optically, I would think that Tampa's defense would be a pretty attractive opportunity for Edler. - Michael_Stuart
Well said. IMO losing Edler would have us go from NW division favourites to a tight battle with Minny, and if this whole season is lost then Edmenton's kids could be ready to make a push as well. Plus Minny and Edmonton have way better prospects than us and Colorado's entire core outside of Hejduk is young as well.
Edler to TB makes a ton of sense as long as Stevie Y can pay him the big bucks. |

just looked at the fa's next summer, some pretty good defencemen, but almost all are old or dont have many prime years left..
edlers gonna get paid. - hugefemale dog77
I hope Edler's agent hasn't done the same research |

Yeah. I don't think you can afford to lose him - he hasn't reached his full potential yet. There's something really special there. |

Watch Philly throw stupid money at Edler. Detroit too. - Michael_Stuart
Those are the two teams that I could see really going hard after him. Chicago as also apparently in the Suter sweepstakes, but I don't think Edler would do that to the Canucks. It would be horrible seeing him in Chicago or divisional rival like Edmonton.
PHI, DET and TB seem like the most likely destinations if he doesn't re-sign. Pitt also needs a D-Man. |

Agreed, you don't just let a d-man with his ability and in his prime just walk away for nothing. That's one of your most valuable assets that you just lost in return for nothing. I do expect that there will be a 10-14 day period once a CBA agreement is reached where teams with pending free agents will be allowed to try to re-sign their players before they become free agents.(Assuming this season is lost and an agreement isn't in place before July 1st). |

I like that idea and think it's a distinct possibility. But pleaseeee let there be a season of some sort. I started here in October and don't want to have to go 12 months without getting to write about a game |

i really hope so otherwise CGY is going to have a extremely tough year when that happens |

As for a team in the NW that could be hurt the worst i think it will be the flames.
Iggy would not sign an extension this summer because he wanted to see what the team would be like. He could now be a ufa. Good chance he leaves to try and get a cup with Calgary getting nothing for their franchise player. Add to the fact that Kipper will only be paid $1.5 million if no season, he might just stay in Europe with his family if Calgary goes full rebuild. Again the flames would get nothing for him. That is a team that can not afford to lose their 2 best players with nothing in return, considering their prospect pool is not that deep. |

that would be a coup for the oil. EXACTLY the type of guy we need.
depending on the ceiling, i think the oil are in better shape signing the kids than alot of people think.
especially with abit of space we already have, a bunch of short term contracts and a few guys we just gonna let walk off the books in the next year or two .
but even still, l doubt we could afford to pay edler more than 4.5 before nuge etc become RFA.
first priority still has to be resigning them.
he'll get more than 4.5 on the open market |

I think next year Corrrado might be close to ready . Gillis will mot pay Edler stupid money. If Canucks can pick up a guy like Douglas Murray cheap for the 3 rd pairing . They can still have a decent D . If they pick up someone in the Luongo or Edler trade( if there is a season) . They will do alright. I think they are hoping on Garrison being a 40 pt man.
Hamhuis Bieksa
Garrison Tanev
Murray Corrado
??? Trade or UFA |

Looks like by the end of this week all December games will be cancelled.
Noticing more players starting to gripe about playing hockey outside of the NHL. The recent Lupul article about the KHL was priceless. Then he goes on to gripe about not being able to use MLSE services during the lockout. What did he expect? |

No way would Smid get that. Right now he's in the 3 range. Also Hamhuis is worth 6 but signed for less. - Boinker
On what planet is Hamhuis in the top 10-12 paid dmen in the league?
He's paid right about what he's worth. |

Coyle and granlund are ready. Minny is going to be tough to beat over the next 5 years. |

Don't act like you've seen Hamhuis play more than a couple times a year.
Guy was 10th in Norris voting, so he can't be that far off. |
