I was just looking forward to having a catcher that could hit. I know, I know...he's a prospect and might not amount to poop. But they were pretty high on that kid. Maybe Halladay will demand a trade back to Toronto? I'd masturbate.
But it is gonna be sweet as (frank) to see a knuckler every 5 days. - weirdoh
Halladay wont last the year in philly, he'll be traded...philly will be bad this year. |

That's a positive attitude.
The window is 3-4 years, go big or go home. Both the Yankees and Red Sox are reworking their lineups, it's now or never. - Scooby_Doo
Doesn't have to be 3-4 years only. Look at the Rays. They'll probably be competitive for quite a while because they consistently have an elite pool of prospects. That's what I would like to see with the Jays. |

Wow, that is stupid....don't they stop to think that if Lupul comes into Real Sports he will probably spend a lot of money, and customers who are there will likely stick around longer and spend more money? |

Halladay left because the Jays weren't giving him a chance to win. That might change if this team on paper turns into a team on the field. - Two_For_Truth
Thats one of the benefits for making moves like these. It becomes a destination players want to go to and a team they want to stick with. The writing was on the wall that a guy like Batista would eventually go the way of Halladay and take his talents to a contender instead of battling for 4th every year for the past 20 or so years.
It stings giving up these prospects, and for a player of Richardeys age, but its something the big teams do often. If we want to play with the big boys (Anaheim, Detroit, Yanks, Sox x 2, Texas) then you have to make moves likes them every so often to get an edge. Sure fans can point to the Orioles, A's, Rays as teams with modest payrolls making the playoffs but aside from the Rays, those are usually one off years where a team over achieves and quickly slips right back to irrelevance the year after.
One thing to remember after all this is that the Blue Jays will still have a prospect pool that is above average (probably around 10th best) so its not like the cupboards are bare all of a sudden. Plus the 10th overall pick in the coming draft. |

If he had the choice between being adored while eating by those around him and being adored by the women he is eating with, he'll take the latter. |

Very depleted system now. Two of their top five prospects are gone.
There was a little talk that Ike Dixon would be involved. Probably would have been better if that came true.
The problem some people have with this is that the team hasn't played a game yet. It seems as though the piece to "put them over the top" is happening way before they even know what they have. It's a team on paper. |

Yup, agree with that. Still too soon to be selling the farm. Lots of talent still left there though. But, its great to see the team going for something for the first time in well over a decade. This team can still totally flop, but these moves wouldnt be happening during the season. The time to do it is now, as it would likely be too late to do it during the season. It was clear that pitching was a major weakness so its not like we didnt know what problems existed. |
