Well, yea, that comes with draftin top 3 overall.

You guys have had 3 consecutive 1st overalls, no reason to not see it as a fair barometer. Scored sweet with Ebs a steal at 22nd overall and just a female genitalia hair out of lottery with Gagner.

- systemtool

If you want to get technical the Leafs have had 3 consecutive lotto picks.... Seguin, Hamilton Reilly.

I didn't. im pointing out that there's a lot more to the situation. Points are points and standings are standings, and are always the ultimate gauge of success. not really news. But saying theres been no significant improvement is simply not true.
- sanfordnson

Evidence leans to it being true, than not. Again, Im envious of the Oilers youth and potential, but a little objective honest isnt something to get your back up over.

Its cute you have to bring the Leafs into this just to make a point your point. Speaks volumes.

They were poop.

And now after them? Which is the crux of my point.

- systemtool

yakupov hasnt played yet. so the third pick has no bearing on your point.

we completely tore it down in the same offseason as we picked hall. and then we had 1 year with nuge. incidentally hall missed a third of that season too.

should our one 18 and one 19 year old have turned us around into a cup contender??

this actually only year 3 of the rebuild coming up. fact.
finishing last the year before we picked hall (2010) does not constitute part of it.

god these people are such clueless monkeys

If you judge from one number and one number only, sure. myself, I think that's a pretty tunnel visioned point of view, but whatever floats your boat.

Do you really need to be told about the lack of players, good players that is, wanting to sign in Edmonton as FAs?

Or how much less appealing it is to live there as opposed to many other options?

Gee lets see...New York, LA, Chicago, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver...Nah...ill pick Edmonton!!! Woohoo a big mall and (frank) all!

- systemtool

This has absolutely nothing to do with a free market NHL. In fact, with a financially sound owner in Katz a free market NHL would actually assist in overcoming those admittedly hazardous factors of life in Edmonton.

Christ you are dense.

You could pick 1st overall for 15 years and not get a Crosby or Malkin.

Hence the term... 'Generational talent'

- robin_steele264

Malkin was to be a Generational talent no less than Hall, RNH and Yak.

Dense indeed.

Crosby was, but none of their other pics were.

He has a point, and if you're a Leafs fan in here criticizing the Oilers and Edmonton, you should absolutely expect to have the Leafs and Toronto brought into it. Deal with it.

Go through the Oilers team stats from last year compared to the the 2 years before.

If you see no improvement after that I suggest you consult a mental health professional.

You have to judge your team based on the level of competition. If the Oilers finished as one of the worst teams, its not tunnel vision. Its simply a fact. The fact some situational stats improved, yet resulted in no gain against the competition, shouldnt be ignored. But hey, whatever sinks your boat.

Ok.

I see 2 consecutive 62 point seasons, followed by a 74 point season last year.

Is that better or worse or the same?

Depends on the level of competition. Where did they finish compared to the other teams they were up against?

2008/09 - Leafs 81pts / Oilers 85pts

the oilers have been bottom of the barrel. no one debates that.
its been horrible..

but to say thay're not a better team now than they were when they drafted taylor hall is laughable. total rebuilds take time and year 3 is coming up. i certainly didnt expect 30th to even 25th in 1 year. they had no one.

also to use all 3 firsts as a diss with no context (yaks hasnt even played yet is kind of a big one!!) is just trolling.

and finally, we all know which direction the oilers are going in.
i can understand your jealousy as a leaf fan

Then look at the last NHL season point total compared to the previous two, in addition to all the stats I mentioned.

Pretty sure they played in the NHL still.

They got 12 more points last year than the previous two years... I don't think the level of competition changed much.

Ive openly admitted im envious, so trying that angle is just a pointless exercise.

When the did I use 3 firsts as a diss? And no context? Are you on crack?

Yeah, this is just getting a bit too emotional for me. I cant listen to anymore of this crying. Denial is a weapon with unlimited powers. Im out.

what denial? is that what u saw? read my posts again please. im as 'glass is half empty' of a fan as it gets.

and yes, no context.
u kept spouting "uve had 3 first overall and no improvement"..with no context provided. did u think this lent more credence to your point cause no one felt like calling u on it?
the third pick hasnt even played yet!!
along with the obvious context of the other two...that i happily provided.

calling u jealous is not an angle to deflect. the only deflecting here is being done by you by using the term "emotional" and "on crack" in attempt to make my contention seem less factual.

uve come in here with a baseless argument to troll your jealousy cause of the direction we're headed in, in relation to the direction your sorry franchise is.
simple as that

So let me get your logic here.

If a team lost all games one year, finished last with 0 points....

Then the next year they won a bunch of games, but still finished last with say 60 points.

That team has not improved.

That's what you are saying is it?

So who else is stoked for the World Juniors?

Can we talk about how awesome Morgan Rielly is and how he and Hamilton are going to be a beast of a pairing.
