I heard Stamkos will be taking league minimum to play in Toronto. Freakorenko would have been a top line player on the Oilers from the 80's, so I see him being on Toronto's 2nd... Maybe 3rd line?
- laughs2907

I doubt it.

Everyone wants to live in Edmonton, not Toronto. Why else would Torontos population pale in comparison to Edmontons. Guys like Pronger want to be in Edmonton, not Toronto or Vancouver or New York or any big market city with big bucks.

Yes, I saw the math where you added 2 + 2 and got 3.

Top 10 spending teams in baseball do win championships. Far more than those outside the top 10.

Its proven and its a fact. You can whine and cry, but it doesnt change anything.

Again look it up there are Actually 1 or 2 teams a years that spend over MLB's soft cap. The Luxury tax is so high that it prohibits teams from doing so (NY Yankees under George Stienbrenner Paid the Tax w/o a single thought.) But when start looking at the winners since 2000 please look at what the Soft cap was then look at the teams Pay rolls that won. The teams that are below the top two or three spending teams are gennerally below the soft cap.

I never said anything about spending over their soft cap.

Im saying the teams that compete on a regular basis, and win championships, are often the teams in the top 10 in payroll.

Thats just how it is. The more you spend, the better. The less you spend, the less likely you'll compete or compete on a regular basis and not one year wonders.

You posted that every post I make is wrong. I made a post on the previous page concerning Cloutier's statement that St. Louis is being kept out of the process. So step up, back up your post. And tell me how I'm wrong!
- MJL

Cloutier never said St. Louis is being kept out of the process. He suggested Iginla was. He eluded to moderates being kept out and that in the last lockout St. Louis was a moderate as was Iginla. He suggested moderates were being kept out this time but no where in there did he directly say that St. Louis was being kept out. Once again you took things out of context, I got his point, he may be right he may be wrong, but you come here and attack clouts based on something you took as literal. Try thinking when you read something

Must have, cause it sure wasnt Edmonton. Lupul played his best hockey there too. Everyone wants to live and play in Edmonton.

Like I said, Edmonton has the highest population in Canada for a reason. Pronger was no match for the awesome, so you guys kicked him out.

Go back and read about how life was in the 50's, and 60's for players before unions evolved for the players. You are forgetting that without the CBA, it wouldn't mean there would be a 'free market'. The League could still make up their own rules. Whether they did remains to be seen. The league could impose a step and grade system that takes the negotiating out of the players hands. They could treat it just like any other company and impose salary levels. They could make pay based on years of service and other metrics. Pay could be based on past performance, not future potential. While the big market teams might like to buy the league, in order for the league to coexist in a non CBA, the Commish would have to impose rules to keep it a fair playing field. Trust me. They players want no part of a non-cba world. They would quickly find out what the rest of us already know. Without a CBA, the owners have only one goal. To make money. And all rules would be based on making money, regardless of how it impacts the 'employees'.
- dgutzman

You are right It wasn't until 1972 that the salary structure in the NHL started to change because they started losing their players to the free spending WHA. Bobby Hull and Derrick Sanderson were 2 of the biggest winners when they signed million dollar contracts over several seasons. I think Hull said his was 2.5 over 4-5 years with Winnipeg. I just watched the NHL network sho the day that changed the game Oct 10 1972 Episode. Great show if you can get it. Clears up a lot of differnt subjects like the Roy trade out of Montreal, Gretzky trade out of Edmonton.......etc.

Bullpoop. You never once said anything about the top ten till I did the math on your teams that spend the most money and pointed out it wasnt the highest spending team (meaning 1st or 2nd) as you eluded to and are not saying the top ten teams.

I said top teams. I didnt think you were that clueless I had to number how many teams would fall in that category

I also never once said the "highest spending team".

It can be any number, as long as its fairly above the half mark which it clearly is. You just need to have number because your arguement holds no weight otherwise.

Its a fact and reality. The teams consistently contending are the teams spending more than the average.

Watch out, they might throw laughing emoticons at you and tell you how you're a loser because they sport stewie griffin and cant handle other opinions.

Wow getting personal much?
What the Hell did Laughs do to you but point out the you are the biggest Toronto Homer here at Hockeybuzz. I find that quite offensive since I have been called the Biggest Edmonton Homer here at Hockeybuzz and you are making me look good in comparrisson. By the switching Alt thing during a thread only works for so long and gets old real quick.

Herbal Magic sweetchunks.

What did I do to anyone but point out that Edmonton would be one of the least appealing places for UFA's? Speaking of biggest homers here at hockeybuzz. If switching from Laughs291831923 to long widebottom gets old quick, you should quit now.

What the hell does population have to do with anything? You are comparing the population of a city like Toronto to Edmonton? That is so effing stupid. So Calgary has a higher population than Winnipeg and basing your logic on that it means Calgary is a better city and more people wanna live there and play hockey there too???

True enough.

I was just wondering... Are you guys going to be able to find a spot for Stamkos, Tavares, and Giroux in your top 6? Considering you already have Kessel, Lupul, Grabovski, Bozak, MacArthur and guys like Kadri coming up in your system, I don't see how you'll have room for all of the guys who are demanding to go to the Leafs.
