Do u think citizens owning guns is a safeguard against the government? Again to you forget they have tanks and jets. They can take advantage right now if they wanted to.
- Cheeseballin

I think they would help. Tanks and jets don't make an army invincible. They make them tough to beat, and other measures would be needed. The lack of arms still makes it easier for a government to impose its will as well. It lessens the likelihood of a revolution (if needed).

Let's count the number of times in the last 200 years your government tried to take away your liberties (unless you consider getting taxed to pay for social services an attack o n your liberties).

Now let's count the number of people killed by guns this week.

They were obviously scared of doing so becuase of all the armed citizens.

The wolverines would of never been able to defend themselves against the Russians if it weren't for their father's guns.

I'm smart enough to know that if it's harder to acquire guns, it's harder to kill people with them.

1. Extension of the Patriot Act
2. National Defense Authorization Act (allows an American Citizen to be detained for no reason
3.They tried to pass SOPA, and will most likely try again this time around.

And that's just off the top of my head...within the past 5 years.

Also, easy to make that argument while the safeguard is in place. The only way we'd really be able to compare is if it wasn't.

So how did your guns help you against these evil government conspiracies?

You are completely (and I wonder if intentionally) misrepresenting my post. That's called a strawman. To say that "people shouldn't have guns because a potential enemy will have more powerful ammunition" is flawed logic. One has nothing to do with the other.

The morality or correctness of a course of action and the likelihood of success are not the same.

I don't think he's saying you shouldn't have guns for those reasons, just that it's a pretty weak argument to justify the right to bear arms.

Yes obviously there is logic in that statement. But as I said, if people want something illegal they're going to get it. Matters none that guns can be obtained legally or illegally. They'll be obtained regardless. Bottom line, If someone wants to commit mass murder they don't need to obtain a gun to do so. Makes it easier to plan, and carry out, but isn't a necessity.

It's not a love of guns. It's the automatic assumption that stricter gun control laws would have prevented this. You don't know that to be the case. What happened today was evil, very evil. That doesn't mean that the "obvious" solution is the way to prevent it from happening again. Often times, it isn't.
- buffalofan19

while im certainly a proponent of tougher rules, and have no use for guns myself,
it's so much deeper than just gun control.

canadians have lots of guns. i think more per capita. Rifles anyway.
but without generalizing too much, these incidents seem to be uniquely american. (on a large scale anyway) and its gonna happen regardless of obtaining the weapon legally or otherwise.
it's just all so effed. this sh*t this morning made me feel sick

Before fighting again, you guys did agree on one important point: make screening much more stringent. Hard to argue with that.

In my view they should also restrict/regulate the purchase and manufactuiring of bullets and ammo. nothing in the 4 corners of the constitution about that. Sure crazies and outlaws will still get them, but it will be harder.

- FlyersFirst

All you have to do is look north look at how many gun related crimes we have up here compared to the united states per capita. we have strict gun laws but its not illegal to own a gun you just have to go get the proper licencing and register them. Im glad that not just anyone could walk into walmart and buy a gun.
