According to some, our govt. Because if they tried to take us over our handguns and rifles would be a serious match for their... you know, tanks and helicopters..

You guys don't have a chance with Patrick Sawzee dead. I know he only defeated the Ruskies but those kids showed a lot of pluck.

You people are (frank)ing nuts. The minds of liberties a Canadian or American government might ever take with it's own population cannot be compared to the innocent lives lost because of your love of guns. What is it you need protection from?
- Canada Cup

It's not a love of guns. It's the automatic assumption that stricter gun control laws would have prevented this. You don't know that to be the case. What happened today was evil, very evil. That doesn't mean that the "obvious" solution is the way to prevent it from happening again. Often times, it isn't.

or the graph will simply reverse.

You could argue that, but there are multiple countries that have done the same and show that not to be the case.

Regardless... Making it harder to legally obtain a firearm, and increasing the ramifications of illegally owning a firearm is a positive thing.

It may not have prevented today, but it could prevent one from happening tomorrow.

Being "educated" or having access to more information doesn't necessarily make you smarter.

Not necessarily, but it has been shown that environment has as much impact on intelligence if not more than genetics.

That is a legitimate debate. I personally think limiting access to guns will limit shootings. However, I find the argument for the need of guns as protection against an elected but evil government baffling.

That's a pretty broad statement to make based on opinion.
- golfingsince

You're comments really don't warrant a civil discussion. What the hell are you talking about? Isn't the constitution alone proof enough? That they had the foresight and wherewithal to create a living blue print to last the ages is absolutely mind blowing.

Today politicians are literally morons.

Figured you'd say something like that.
- jak521

Well one was bequeathed to me by my grandfather, so technically speaking it's not legally mine. In other words it's not registered in my name.

The constitution is a good base but it would not last ages without the Amendment Process. Times change and the constitution also has changed and will continue to change.

And I find the argument that a body in power won't take advantage of a safeguard no longer being in place a dangerous one.

Imagine if the teachers had a gun. He wouldn't have come to the school in the first place and no deaths at all! Or he could have just blown up the school. Come on.

Do u think citizens owning guns is a safeguard against the government? Again to you forget they have tanks and jets. They can take advantage right now if they wanted to.

Let's count the number of times in the last 200 years your government tried to take away your liberties (unless you consider getting taxed to pay for social services an attack o n your liberties).

Now let's count the number of people killed by guns this week.
