It means take the deal and play Hockey

The players should be trying to give up money for contract rights but now they're playing the same hardball that Bettman is and trying to get both.

As a Leafs fan, I'll take the lockout, the draft pick and another day that Luongo can't be acquired.

If only this was a game of Deal or No Deal....Where is Howie Mandel when you need him?

Only if they keep Reimer and Scrivens in net which is highly unlikely given how much pressure Burke is under.

No one should ever need Howie Mandel ever.

The owners created the mistake. Now, they can eat it. You can't just make mistakes and expect somebody else to accept the consequences.

If the owners want to change the way future money is spent, fine by me, find something that works for both sides in the future but they just can't roll back the players and take away the money they already gave them.

- Two_For_Truth

I could not agree more.
I hope the players do not cave on roll backs and hold out as long they need.

Yes they do. The end of a CBA just means they have to stop making food the way they made it before. It doesn't mean they stop eating what they already made.
- Two_For_Truth

Oooh you are on a roll today.
I second this as well.

Pressure is off, even with a 48 game season, I think the lockout extended him 1 year minimum no matter what happens.
Scrivens and Reimer are his guys

With Kessel sitting on his ass at home and Lupul sucking in the KHL?

Sure thing. Pressure is off.

The less talent a team has, the harder it is to deal with a short season especially with suspect goaltending.

Perfect... if they play, the Pick gets better.

Even if like you say..and Burke acquires luongo, thats not enough, the guy has average stats on a First place team, he sure can't do better on the talentless, out of shape, crappy KHL playing leafs.

Win win

Only if the roster stays the same, which it probably won't.

The Leafs would do much better with Luongo in net than Reimer and Scrivens.

so you'd rather us aquire Luongo via a trade

over keeping Reimer/Scrivens combo

is that right?

I don't think rollbacks are even a part of the debate/discourse anymore. The make-whole seems to cover that.

The hill they're fighting for is contract length. It can't be worth losing about 60 million per week from their chunk of the pie ...can it?

its not that so many people disagree that luongo makes the leafs better, he does, but its how much better?

to me.. its not negligible, but it certainly isnt enough to do anything more than maybe squeak into the playoffs imo

IF the goal is to make the playoffs or at least try to make the playoffs...Lou alone will not do that. Than yes.
If the goal is to continue the losing tradition and show UFA's Toronto has no interest in winning and go for a high draft pick...than sure....keep the current goalies.

Contract length is not only thing holding up the deal I believe. All the money hasn't been figured out yet.
