B.S, if that's the case he would have signed in Vancouver.
Gillis made it very clear that he would, as you said, have to work for his ice time.
The next day he signs in Edmonton
I'm not trying to be bitter and jeolous but I think it's pretty clear that ice time and role was a major factor in his decision, as noted by everyone in the mainstream.
Hence the reason for turning down powerhouses like Van and NYR.
All the more reason to be a happy Oil fan bro. - Whiskey-Tango
He made the choice that he thought was best for his career. He might end up being a dud, i doubt it, but you never know. |

If you're gonna write a blog trying to give the guy praise, and then take a shot at him at the end, at least make it a good one. Wow lol. He states the obvious saying that OKC isn't a hockey city and that makes him immature??? If that's all the dirt you can find on him, then it just goes to show how mature he is for his age.
I'm actually family friends with him and know him pretty well. Couldn't be a more down to earth guy. I don't know if you've heard the him speak or give an interview, but he's of the quietest people you'll meet. He's not cocky or immature at all. I even asked him why he chose to sign with the Oilers. He gave a simple answer "because I could sign with any team I wanted". Wouldn't you sign at your first choice of team if you could?
The first guy that commented above is clueless saying that he should have signed with the team that drafted him like all other players do. He didn't hold out and refuse to sign or demand a trade or anything. He was special exception to entry level contract rules and did everything within his rights. No different than a UFA signing where they want to. - ty_guy999
I won't debate whether it was within his "rights" b/c obviously the loophole existed. However, it doesn't make it "right" what he did. UFA's earn the right to be unrestricted free agents by playing through their service time and reaching UFA age (or not being drafted at all). All Schultz did was get drafted when he was in junior and then go to college but leave early and not graduate.

We cant blame him for his choice. Its like applying for jobs. Best room for advancement. He plays with elite talent which will make his personsl stats better. He will be paid more. Not to mention he will win 3-5 cups in the next ten seasons. He has coffey wrote all over him. Its good to see canadian kids wanna play in canada unlike guys like richards lecavillier nash the list goes on |

He still straight up lied to the Ducks management and coach. Then it came out that the Oil was always his first choice. He now makes comments about OKC? This kid is the typical, entitled brat who happens to be athletically gifted. He lacks integrity and maturity at this point in his career. - H.E.Pennypacker
So your displaying your maturity by putting the kid down based on claims made by?
Your making a judgement based on here say. The truth is you have zero knowledge of what he said to Ducks management unless you were in the room.
I don't perceive stating the truth as a negative.

A young person made a decision within the rules which he felt was in his best interests. It sounds to me like he did the right thing.
You guys really get your kicks judging others.

If he's such a great guy, why did he cheat on my friend in college? Classless. - selanne4pres
Perhaps because she cheated on him?
Perhaps he broke up with her prior but she wouldn't accept it.
Perhaps the relationship was going nowhere.
Perhaps she treated him poorly.
I could go on. In any situation there are two sides to a story and usually neither is 100% correct.

Ducks management and coach both came out and said "Schultz told us he is planning on signing the minute he leaves college". So either Schultz is a liar, or the Ducks management are liars. |

We gave you pronger and you won a cup,now you gave us schultz and we will win many cups...in the end its all fair you win some you lose some...its a tough pill to swallow for sure for the ducks but the oilers had to watch gretzky, messier, coffey, kurri and many many others leave and win cups elsewhere... - oil90
You didn't give us Pronger. We traded for him.
I don't get the attitude that this is somehow 'payback' for stealing Pronger. Pronger wanted out, and the Ducks gave the best offer. You got Lupul, Smid and 2x first round picks, one of which became Eberle, who scored what, 80 points last season?
Nice to see you so confident about winning many cups though. |

History is about to repeat itself. Only difference is now we're able to afford to keep our team together. There's no stopping the Oil!!! GO OILERS GO!!!! |
