When that game generatd billions in revenue, yes. Your mistake is calling it a game when it's a business.
- MJL

People need to stop talking about Revenue so much. Profit is in most cases as this one more important. Players 1.65billion pie is 100% league profits. The rest of the profits it $250mil. $250 mil is the take home for these owners. Yet they paid 1.65bil to players. Yes, revenue is high, but their profit split is off.

I understand the process of a negotiation. But you clearly missed the point. A negotiation is give and take. Not seek and destroy. Which was the NHL's approach until the latter parts of this negotiation.
- MJL

OMG COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How the (frank) are you still so blind?

No matter what was going to happen before these negotiations, the end result was going to be 50/50. WHY? Because it's what the NBA and NFL models are. It was always going to be there.

It's not Seek and Destroy. Stop your hate towards the owners. It's just making you blind towards reality.

I am pretty sure all we need to do is get any of these offers to a full NHLPA vote and we will have hockey once again.

Not arguing with you here, but just asking for your opinion. Why are the players against a term limit on contracts? If there is a term limit of 5 years then at the very least they can negotiate a new contract every 5 years, if not less. Virtually 100% of the time, a new contract equals a RAISE. Except for maybe very late in their career. Instead of being locked into an 8yr plus contract for a certain dollar amount, why wouldnt it be preferable to be in a 5 yr deal for that amount and then sign another contract for even more dollars as salaries always rise.
- Donnie27J

Players like security. They want the ability to maximize their earning potential. The more restrictions on contracts, the harder that is to do. Top players can earn top dollar for longer contracts. There is always the risk of injury playing this game.

The offer from October 15th would have passed in a full NHLPA vote.

I agree....I believe deep down any of these offers would be accepted by the majority of players if it went to a vote.

Yes, we finally agree on something. Top players sould earn Top dollars. I like Crosbys (not anymore, realized it's back diving) contract. As well as Ovies.

I think by controlling the back diving effect, and potentially making the contract the actual cap hit, we are in business..

No, Revenue is highly important. It pays the bills. Part of owning a sports team is the Franchise value, not just the yearly income. Plus, teams have way of "hiding" money to show less of a profit then is really there.

Despite some contentious issues left to resolve, #NHL & #NHLPA seem to be inching closer to #CBA deal. http://bit.ly/YQMuQ4 @michaelgrange

How do any of these insiders know what the feelings are like if both groups havent even met yet???

How did the NHL generate over 3B in revenue last year then?

Because everyone is at the game, not watching on TV.

What you're blind to is that the end result of 50/50 could've been reached sooner. There is more at stake then just 50/50. There are other issues in play. Also how you get to 50/50 is key.
