Oh you have GOT to be kidding me MJL.

It is no secret ALL athletes in ANY sport are vastly overpaid (ok maybe except for the scrubs makin 625k).

You can't possibly think anyone deserves to be handed a $125 million to merely play a game, right?

RIGHT??

If the industry they're in generates a poop ton of money, than yea, I think those guys "deserve" the money owners are willing to pay them, regardless of whether they're doing anything constructive for humanity or whatever.

Are you (frank)ing kidding me?

How can a any human with a functioning brain think the way you do?

Dude, have you ever negotiated anything in your life?

Buy a car. It's 20k msrp. You need it to drop by 2k. Do you go to the sales guy and ask "I need 2 k off? NO, because he will say, I can only do 500. You might then be able to push $250 more.
Instead, you go, I need 4K off to make a deal. He looks and laughs. He can't. You then ask what can he do. So he gives you $1000. You tell him that wont do. You say you might be able with 3000 off. He goes talk to his boss, comes back and gives you the 2K you really wanted from the start. Worst case scenario is, he offeres 1K off, but gives you winter tires, fills up the gas, a first oil change on him, winter mats, etc...

Lay off the cheap drugs, Soccer and baseball in front of football The World Series just came off its lowest Shares since 2007. That was because the Yankees or Redsox weren't involved in it.

That shows how popular Baseball isn't.

Then why come here ? It is a hockey site . You are done with hockey . We can respect your decision , but your constantly posting how you are done with it is getting really old . Must be some other forum you could join besides a hockey one for your social interaction .

Still the same idiology of a negociation. You don't come in offering your target. You come in offering your "wet dream scenario", to lay the ground work for the "needed".

If Bettman came in offering 50%, and couldn't have once moved off his mark, NHLPA would have NEVER dropped below 53.5%. If he wanted 50/50, the ONLY possible way was to come in at 43%.

Seriously, go take classes or read a book on negotiations. I reccomend "Getting to Yes" by Roger Fisher/William Ury/Bruce Patton

MJL is that guy on Pawn Stars that is on video outside saying he would like to get 4k for his signed Elvis Pelvic Brace and then when dude inside asks him how much he's looking to get, MJL starts the negotiation at 4k. Good Faith, right?

eks neverending, self serving, optimism irks the hell outta me.

we're not stupid. we dont need to be treated like children with assurances everytime there's bad news. it prety tenuous right now regardless of the new found optimism.
we know what's happening for the most part and it's mostly been bad up to this point. its what, day 80 of the lockout?? how could anyone say any different?

we are either gonna choose to come to your website or not regardless of your ridiculous nonsensical meters. we go to lebrun etc if we want the facts on the lockout. we come here to bs about the sport we love.
cut the bs and just stick to writing what u hope is happening. not passing it off as a massage evrytime something bad happens that both ek and the rest of us read on tsn. which incidentally, lebrun just said is optimistic, but hanging by a thread

I live in America...your "study" encompasses Mexico so because of that Soccer is number 1.

1. Football 2. Basketball. 3. Baseball ............hockey ranks slightly behind the WNBA and Lumberjacking

So basically what you're telling me is that on the 3 core issues of this new CBA, the players are unhappy with any of them?

What a joke.

On one hand, don't think they're far from agreement on principle issues. But on flip side, clearly a sense this thing is hanging by a thread

you're talking participation numbers before the age of 14. not even close to the same argument everyone else is debating.

football viewership and revenue is easily number 1. followed by baseball and basketball.
soccer is last on that list in north america
