you're missing out brah

I'll have to take your word for it, never appealed to me I guess. I was playing midget AAA at the age of 15/16, WHL/SJHL at the age of 17, 18, 19. Smoking was not the in thing to do at that time, 83-88, for a hockey kid. Like many other players of that time, alcohol was my drug of choice.

thats what i mean, i give him this year and next to find consistency.. after that.. i would say he wont amount to anything much
- Dozzer

Boston made him expendable for a reason, they probably made a best guess and by all accounts...they were probable right. Not a shot at him, just reality. Could be a serviceable bottom six player with his size if he chooses to play that role.

He can't play that role. He's a skill guy, if he's not he's nothing.

Lots of skilled guys from junior, become checkers in the NHL. You either accept it, or you move on.

Guy Carbonneau was a really skilled junior star, became one of the best checkers in the league. I can find other examples as well. Mike Peca?

Problem is he's not a good checker. He was a very risky pick based on his size in a Junior B league. He has his ups and downs and since he's gone pro it's mostly downs (His sick month that got him called up being the exception).

You can teach that, although it's much better to have it naturally engrained in you. As I said, it's some thing he has to embrace and learn or he'll be a career AHL'er or be outta the game in a hurry.

If JVR works at Centre, then Connolly, Bozak, and Colborne are all disposable.
If he doesn't, then Connolly and Colborne are still disposable.

I just really want the third line to be Kulemin - McClement - Frattin.
All three can hit, all three are defensive, and although McClement isn't the most offensively gifted, the line would still produce decent offensive numbers

Couldn't agree more. Bottom six is much more of an issue for the Leafs than top six in my opinion

I agree that he's a skill player and that he can develop into a checker, but I haven't seen anything from his play that would indicate him as a Mike Peca type of player. Not saying it could never happen, just that if his skills don't translate I wouldn't like to rely on the fact that he can learn to use his frame, because from what I've seen he hasn't really used it that way.

You have to have a defensive ability to do that though

Good point, defense isn't his strong suit. Haven't been watching him for the Marlies, has he been struggling?

i know he is just a kid but i am starting to have serious doubts..

seems like he typically plays with no real production and then once in awhile he has an offensive outburst and racks up the points for a short while.. then goes back into no production land

he only really has a year or two to find his consistency, or he will be an AHLer for life

- Dozzer

I'm not sure why people are freakin out about him, he was never projected to be anymore than a 3rd liner, maybe...MAYBE a 2nd liner if the stars aligned.

Honestly, he's doing a little worse than how I thought he would.

What exactly are you basing your opinion off of? The fact you're only looking at stats?

You don't even know your own prospects

Forget JVR at center...he's a winger, play him there.
There will be no season, so the leafs can shop for a center next year.
