I would be curious to know what is the stance of small market owner teams, they + some players other then the usual suspects (Campoli,Darche, Hainsey and Mayers) should be in that room.
- Alexzanki

Jacobs will tell Campoli and Darche to STFU since they will never play in the NHL again.

I'm not buying it. There is more to it. I can't believe that the difference in Make Whole is holding this up. The difference between the Owner's Make Whole offer and the players Make whole offer adds up to about 1.2M annually for each team. When you consider that the League is losing 10-20M per day during the lockout. It's not just as simple as the players agreeing to the Owners Make Whole, and then the League will relent on the contract issues. If it is, it's shameful. And as another poster pointed out, the Make Whole number has to change as more games get cancelled.
- MJL

i don't buy the contracting issues and never have. i think at 50% and the elimination of frontloads, the owners will be happy.

as for what's holding this deal up, none of us knows the true reason. i think more than any CBA negotiation in recent memory, this one has been a complete sham (in terms of what's been made public). i don't believe that anyone outside of the upper echelons of the league and PA have any clue what's going on.

i heard Campoli on HockeyCentral last week. he was being ripped into by Doug MacLean after making the typical "we're willing to start playing while we negotiate". he had absolutely nothing of substance to say. nothing. and this is one of the PA's top player reps? i just don't get it. i can't figure out the players' role in this.

Players are in NO rush to play....pretty obvious.

Cancel the season....after reading that, I hope these guys don't see a paycheck for 2 years.

Becasue they're hockey players, not lawyers. It's emotional and personal for them, not so much business. They can't understand why the people they work for hold them in such disdain, just like any other employee.

You were questioning the players sound bits and how they appear to not be saying anything of substance, My point is, they are not lawyers and therefore may not be all that articulate when it comes to expressing the issues at hand. The emotions they are feeling only serve to make it worse.

Pominville worries decertifying would “wash the season out.” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly has threatened the move would end the season.

“It can take a lot of time to settle,” Pominville said. “We’ll have to wait and see if that’s our next step. And if it is, I’ll support it. If not, I’ll support whatever the union does.

aaaaand that's the NHLPA

no, about the owners' disdain. i have no idea what you're talking about. you seem to think this is personal for the owners. it's not. they could not possibly care less about the players one way or the other. Dellavano was right--the players are cattle. same way the players see the owners as ATMs and the same way both sides could piss on the fans for all they care. there's no disdain or personal feelings on either side.

So a player asking the right question will cause the owners to walk away from the negotiating stance they have used for past eight years.

2004 Start by locking out then get a salary rollback, lock it in and move on to contracting issues. Lock those in and go on to get the cap before signing a deal.

2012 Start by locking out then try to get the rollback and only with that locked agree to talk about contracts.

And this is going to change why?

For some reason, many here don't want to think of the players as human beings with emotions. You read posters here posting with emotion. Players are the same. You would think people would realize that.

It's not personal for Jacobs, he just has no respect for the players, it's different.

if you were part of a union (actually something tells me you ARE part of a union) and you felt that the union was NOT negotiating in yours and many of your coworkers' best interests (and i'm NOT saying that's happening here, it's hypothetical), you'd blindly support? you wouldn't have the stones to step up and defend yourself?

They see them as rich or entitled, the reason why they are paid as they is becasue they can do things on a sheet of ice very few people can. I also think they're some areas in the US that are extremely anti union in general.

i don't think that's fair to say. i think the fans feel about the players the same way the players feel about fans. maybe i don't see the players as human beings. but i'm pretty confident in saying that the players don't see the fans as human beings. we see them as entertainment figures, they see us as customers. it goes both ways and as fans, we owe players NOTHING.

Seven out of 29 votes needed for Bettman to veto any deal he doesn't like and fines of up to $1M for any owner says something to the press. Jacobs screaming at owners who dare to speak up at meetings.

You step up, say your piece and if the majority doesn't go with you, support the majority. Not quite the way Gary is running things.
