- Mapleleafs_91

It would be awesome for the Leafs of he just totally sucked and amounted to nothing at all, wouldn't it?

In 2014-2015, when seguin is hitting his consistent 75-100 point seasons, hamilton is playing steady hockey in the top pairing, knight is grinding out his 3rd line minutes and kessel is playing for the Flyers or Rangers this whole 'Kessel trade' will be all but forgotten.

Burke has won the same amount of cups in Toronto as gilles has in van .... Should Gilles be fired ?
- The_Vark

Again...what does that have to do with BB being let go in Toronto? Some good deflections I guess, but that doesn't address Mike's question.

I love how you highlight the last two years and completely ignore the future that both Seguin and Hamilton have ahead of them.
- Two_For_Truth

And you still ignored the question...good job. Got something to say about everything, yet ignore all the questions regarding it...keep up the BS

You had it right until that last part.

This is not the kind of trade you forget.

He's been drafted and is looking like a very good young defenseman.

Can we do Yakupov next? Galchenyuk? Gormley? Tarasenko? Or how about Rielly?

Oh I don't think it'll ever be forgotten.

There will be plenty of reminders, especially when that inevitable scenario unfolds.

Columbus will have 5 balls and 3 picks, they have the Rangers and Kings 1st rounders. Highly unlikely but theoretically they can get 3 lottery picks.

How do you figure Leafs should pick no lower than 7th?

- awfside

Based on the way they outlined the process. They based it off the %, and the leafs are 1 of 7 with the highest %. That's why.

Kessel vs. Seguin/Hamilton/Knight... The Leafs lost the trade... MOVE ON!

(frank), this poop is STALE!

But not as stale as Luongo to the Leafs for 22 1st rounders, Kessel, Lupul, Gardiner, Rielly, Burke's tie collection (autographed!), relocating the Raptors to Vancouver, 4 cases of Burkie's Dogs and a 2018 5th rounder.

The 2018 5th rd pick does kinda swing the trade in Vancouver's favour. Maybe, if they accept a 2018 3rd round pick instead?
Luongo is a better goalie than Kessel, Lupul, Rielly and Gardiner.

You think Backstrom is meh? Some swede you are.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

Backstrom is one of the best centres in the league, but just look at the other comments this guy makes, so who cares.

And anyone who thinks the number one centre thing isnt over blown is an idiot.

Look, centres are important but what is key is having 2 players on the same line who demand the attention of the other teams best defensemen. The gap between the 1 and 2 D man is usually incredible and if you can draw the second guy to your best player that is how you score.

Lupul and Kessel, until Lupul got injured, where top 5 in scoring. Just how many more points would they have gotten if they had an elite centre? Not many.

Thats not to say it isnt important to have a centre, but saying "most teams who win the cup have one" is disengenous because most teams have a top centre. Theres like 20 of them in a 30 team league. So your argument is a false equivalency.

What you NEED on a hockey team is 2 guys on the same line who can draw the D away from each other. Secondly, you need a second line that can score. With JVR the Leafs have a solid second line now.

Anyone who thinks the Leafs would be or cant be an elite team until they get the mythical number one centre is stupid. Sure a centre is a good thing to have, but to align your team by position never works. You don't say "we need a centre more than we need a winger" you say "I want the best player available". Seguin plays for a stacked team on a line with Bergeron, who , after Elias, is the most under rated hockey player in the world, Seguin is a solid player, but Phil Kessel is a dynamic superstar.
